Atheist Nexus

The World’s Largest Coalition of Nontheists and Nontheist Communities!

This has nothing to do with atheism, but I have become fond and familiar with the community here and I would like your collective opinion on a sensitive matter with which I am faced. I know a little girl at a chinese restaurant I frequent; she is the owners' daughter and she eats with me when I come in. Recently she mentioned that one of her parent's employees creeps her out, so I asked her why. She said "he tickles me," which immediately sent up red flags to me. I asked her if she had told him to stop, and she said yes, so I told her she should tell her mom about it and she said she did but that her mom didn't do anything. I can't really talk to her mom because she barely speaks english and I don't know any mandarin. I think the guy "tickling" her speaks some english so I could talk to him, but I'm reticent because I don't have anything other than her statement and I could be misconstruing it. What can I ask her to find out what he's doing without making her too shy to answer? She's like 9 years old. And if he's doing something inappropriate, what should I do? I won't be able to prove it, so I don't know if it would be helpful to tell the police. If he's doing anything wrong, he would surely deny it. Suggestions please.

Good advice. But you're still wrong about moral relativism ;-). It doesn't mean I can't do anything about it, it just means there's no logic in judging whether it's right or wrong. If I am compelled to do something, then I will (actually, if I'm compelled, I'll act whether or not I will it, since what is determined is going to happen, regardless and inclusive of my thoughts), but I won't feel that I am doing "good" and that this guy is "evil" (if indeed he is doing what I suspect he's doing). With the possible exception of interim randomizing factors, I suspect that what will happen in this situation was caused at the very beginning of existence (if such a term as "beginning" is applicable to existence), including that I came here to ask advice, received the advice you gave, and returned this comment. But thanks for your suggestions. I haven't delt with something like this before. I look forward to the day when the Matrix makes it impossible for people to take advantage of each other, but until then I suppose we deal with it as we can. Only what can happen, does happen.

John, why not have her draw the location of the tickling.

Solicit advice from the police and or dcf re best course of action if you are fairly certain that it is as you suspect. Or be a moral relativist and leave well enough alone. See even philosophical atheists, determinists gotta live differently than they opine.
