If the Bible is truly the word of God, there is no need for personal interpretation. God has dictated his rules and desires; he doesn’t need billions of varied human interpretations to distort his views. Besides, why would a lowly human interpretation of the Bible be better than the God who wrote it? Could there possibly be an error in the Bible if God dictated it? Think about that. The same God who created trillions of stars, billions of galaxies, the laws of physics, life, Guinness, and bacon double cheeseburgers also happened to write a book. Well, he didn’t exactly write it, he inspired it (whatever the hell that means.) Apparently it would have been very difficult for this God to create a book out of thin air.

Comment by Jason Fleming on January 8, 2012 at 6:50pm For such a powerful deity, God relies on his imperfect creations an awful lot. Interpretation is only required for apologetic purposes to attempt to make it compatible with modern science and society. I find it funny that interpretation was not needed back when the earth was the center of the universe and stoning your children for disobeying was accepted practice.
Comment by Roy on January 8, 2012 at 8:02am Has anyone else on here seen the TV ad by the Catholic Church lately? They claim that the church was started by Jesus! This is an outright lie. I've read the Bible. Jesus didn't start ANY church. I bet the protestants are mad about this.
Comment by Tara Benson on January 7, 2012 at 6:39pm If it weren't, what need would there be for theologians, clergy and other so-called religious "experts" to teach people what the Bible says? If it weren't open to interpretation there would be only one Christian denomination, and there are tens of thousands. If it weren't, there wouldn't be such divergent notions on what God thinks about certain things and wants for humanity (gay people, women, the poor, the environment, etc).
Comment by Loren Miller on January 7, 2012 at 5:13pm I've said multiple times that my physics, math, and engineering texts need no interpretation ... so why should the bible?
