POOR HELPLESS CHRISTIANS :(

This is the most aggrivating thing about talking to christians.

Why is it, that when christians find themselves losing fundamental arguments, they begin maoning and complaining that my atheistic view is a personal attack on them?

Just today I was called biased and close minded by a christian because I said evolution is real and that can be backed up by fact. Really? WOW! That made my monkey sad:(

Comment by Kris King on October 10, 2011 at 6:20am: There is a definite trend between criticising someone's beliefs and them feeling like you're attacking them personally. It's mainly when people see their beliefs as intrinsic to who they are, like they're defined by them, and are ultimately nothing without them. I think it also explains why they're so offended by any aspect of science or rationality that reduces the number of places for their god to hide ... they maybe figure that if their god is squeezed out of the world, they go with him. How often do you hear, "I'm nothing without god"?

It's sad, in a way, because one of the many wonderful things you can realise as a human being is that, "oh, my beliefs are nothing more than how I was taught and raised and are no indicator of external reality whatsoever". It's incredibly liberating because then you've got one less thing to feel aggrieved about when someone slags it off ... they have to pick on your political views and musical taste instead :)

Comment by Matthew Land on October 10, 2011 at 3:46am: That's true Katrina, the "monkey" thing was a joking stab at creation. I do think for the most part science is in agreement that we did evolve from some type of early primate.
