Making decisions

Just thought I would share how interesting it is to make decisions without god. I was raised to believe that you sought god's advice for every detail of your life. For example, you did not buy a toothbrush unless you had heard from god as to what color it should be. Now that major decisions are being made in my life, it's scary. It's scary because I don't consult any god. I do what seems best for me with the occasional piece of advice from friends. It is just as liberating as it is scary. Anybody else feel me?

You cannot blame use God as an excuse "it was God's will". When you don't believe in God you cannot cop out by saying "well, I'm gonna leave it in God's hands". You are totally accountable, and that can be a scary thing at times.

But the liberating part is, knowing that you have the power to make changes and no entity has already determined your path. Having the power of change and not predestination, is a wonderful thang, lol.

Kimberlee, I was't brought up religious, but I did have a deeply entrenched "Fear of Mom" - Liberating yourself from any authority is scary and exciting, but wow the rewards!

It's odd that my mother raised me Catholic but wasn't herself particularly religious, whereas I latched onto religion from a very early age. I think now it's because my family dynamics were all screwed up and I wanted someone to love me unconditionally, even if I had to delude myself.

Anywho, I understand that it's scary and liberating at the same time. I think liberty in and of itself is pretty scary. Being all "free" and shit makes things complicated and sometimes dangerous, but that's the price we all pay for living our own lives and generally being AWESOME.

Do what is meaningful to you. And always, always buy the hot pink toothbrush. :-P

Consulting a deity that does not exist is a deluded decision. Making choices in life does feel scary at times but be at peace, as you will not be judged for the decisions you make. Would a loving god really burn you in hell because you bought a prius instead of a hummer?
