I've done it too.  Who am I to judge his situation?  We are all just one bad event away from being in that same place.  Just one and we could be catapulted into a place we never thought we would be.  People will spend $40 - $50 to put out bird seed in the winter for the birds, but won't help a fellow human in need.  I don't understand it.

Karen, I watch it happen to my dad and step-mom. As they become wealthier they became part of the golf-country-club-gated-community, fox news watching culture. They resent paying taxes and see the world as being comprised of two types of people, those with money and those without it. The ones without money are losers and a drain on society. Why spend a penny on losers? That is how they see it.

I have had that happen before too and I wonder...when does it happen? That moment that the rich man loses his very connection to humanity?
CERTAINLY not all wealthy people have lost their connection, but many do...

Louis, well my sentiments exactly but sometimes there are more powerful ways of saying things, especially to a family member.

Adrianne, there is a persistent effort by people that do not want to invest in social programs to diminish those less fortunate or in need of help. Their efforts are paying off.
