I derive more utility out of the convenience than I lose paying the government to pay a church to set up a polling station close to me. That, by the way, is how you answer a question posed to you. Now it's your turn to tell me why it's so bad. No vagueness, please. Also, show me where in the constitution it says voting can't take place in churches.

Grace, I wish I did vote in a government building. Keith, I am wondering how you are ok to give any tax money to a church affiliation. Your tax money is spent by the government to keep the infrastructure and defense of your home. If your tax money is not spent properly it leaves you vulnerable to the elements.

I have only voted in libraries. schools or the county courthouse. I don't think I've ever seen anything else used as a polling station. It must vary from state to state. I usually early vote, so that is always at the courthouse. However, for city elections, I voted at the town hall. I am surprised you don't vote in a government building.

I have no doubt your outrage is honest. I also have no doubt that the outrage of the extremely religious is honest as well. It's two sides of the same incredibly passionate coin. Also you failed to explain why it's so bad that places received money for setting up and staffing polling locations. I'm not your enemy. I'm trying to learn something.

My outrage is honest, as is my respect for the constitution. Your bland indifference to that which is unfair seems weird to me.

Dogly, I'm unconvinced that it's really about the constitution for you. I'm also pretty unimpressed with your outrage. Help me understand why this is such a huge issue for you. Please no vague blanket statements. Take it from beginning to end and tell me what the disaster scenario is.

Dogly, can you believe we still have a don't ask don't tell law? You are probably thinking yes but no, right? In this society of prejudice to who deserves civil rights and protection it is no suprise at all. There are so many laws that are still on the books that govern our private lives that are invasive and idiotic. Take for example a law to prohibit putting a penis in anuses. Can you imagine the judicial system actually enforcing this? Maybe they should be made to investigate and prosecute every example made of penises entering anuses on the internet. That would really make there day wouldn't it? Aside of being stupid on the books the more serious part of this is our civil rights and how we are protected. Like you say the gay population has made openness more popular but did it really increase their protection? Maybe it did but it has a long ways to go. Look at how many prisoners are in prison for Marajuana and prostitution. Look at how prisoners are not protected while in prison. Look at how prisoners are not isolated from communicating to the outside. There are so many things that we as American don't have protection for or against that may be needed. Yet, we had a pre emptive war in Iraq over a lie about WMD.

Earther, I agree with you. I do not suggest we risk our necks or our jobs. Martyrdom (sp?) for our cause? That's atheist humor. We have lots of lawyers among us. We have folks with every kind of skill AND we're smarter than those who are superstitious. We can work together to protect ourselves from policies, laws, and religious zealots which threaten our rights. Look at the gay community. Their courage has made strides in their acceptance by the majority and has gotten laws passed to protect their lives and their rights. It is never easy, much less CONVENIENT!

Well, Mr. Araneo, if it is OK with you to give your taxes to churches, as long as it is "adding an element of convenience" then God bless you! It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and thus does not further "the domocratic process".

I agree we need to be activist but we also must do what we feel is safe to our person. It does no good for us to die for our cause. As you know we will just be dead unlike believers who get to go to heaven and gloat over how holy they are, haha. The only way that is affective is to change the way laws operate. I am not a lawyer and I would just get smeared by those who do and advocate religion. Is it legal to have voting polls at churches?
