[This is something that I added to my atheism blog, and I also just had to add it to my Facebook status. Living surrounded basically by a sea of Christians here in Tennessee, and having heard these two things until I'm sick of it, I thought I'd share it here for any atheists here who may have heard similar.]
I am sure that there are those atheists who have heard some Christian say these words: "God never promised that life would be fair". I have heard it and heard it…Continue
If Christ was in fact God, he knew all the future.
Before Him like a panorama moved the history yet to be. He knew how his words would be interpreted.
He knew what crimes, what horrors, what infamies, would be committed in his name. He knew that the hungry flames of persecution would climb around the limbs of countless martyrs. He knew that thousands and thousands of brave men and women would languish in…
Interviewer: Hello God, glad to have you with us. How are you feeling today ?
God: Well, you know, I change not, and there is no shadow of turning in me.
Interviewer: That brings to mind a question that we all would like to know. Why were you so violent and bloodthirsty in the Old Testament of the Bible ? And was your mindset any different in…
The everyday, average, human being, knows little to nothing, about how the human brain works. Most people, outside of neuroscientists, brain surgeons, psychiatrists, and psychologists, know nothing of what is really going on inside their heads. Most people are not aware of the fact that our brains can, and do, at times deceive us. Even completely sane and rational people sometimes see, hear,…Continue
What about it ? Can theists endure with confidence a close and careful examination of their religious beliefs, or do they fear that if they are scrutinized too closely those beliefs won't hold up, that they'll prove false and illogical ?
Since I am an American and most familiar with the Christian religion I will use that as my test case, but these questions apply equally well to Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, or any other theistic beliefs that may be out there.
From my atheism blog http://tonyjordan37814.blogspot.com/
Nearly all believers in every religion make the claim that religion is good for societies, that belief in their particular God, whether it be Yahweh, Jesus, Allah, or the various gods of Hinduism, leads to unity, health, wealth, peace, and stability. But is this claim reflected by the facts of reality ? Consider the following:
Phil Zuckerman is a Professor of…
From my Google atheism blog.
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" [Jeremiah 17:9].
Fundamentalist Christians believe the Bible to be the inerrant and infallible word of God. But who wrote the Bible ? The short answer is men wrote the Bible. "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: But holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost". [II Peter 1:21].
So this is the…
This comes from my atheism blog on Google blogs.
"The humanity of all Americans is diminished when any group is denied rights granted to others" [Julian Bond].
What do Christians have to fear from letting gay people express their love and devotion to one another ? Nothing actually. The love two people feel for one another, the sex of two consenting adults, whether heterosexual or homosexual, does me no harm in the least. What two consenting adults feel for one…
A difference between theism and atheism is each's idea of morality. To the theist, whether Jew, Christian, or Muslim, morality is linked to obedience to alleged divine commands. A theist conforms to God's commands whether they call for proselyting or committing acts of murder and genocide. So the theist believes morality is linked to obeying God without question or deliberation.
The atheist, however, bases morality on doing what's right based on reasoning and…
"Thus saith the LORD" is a frequent refrain encountered in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. The Jews' Torah and Tanakh tells the same story in Hebrew. The thing is, though, that since the earliest primitive religions were recorded, not once has God ever spoken out of his very own Divine mouth for us to hear, it is always men who presume to speak the words of God.
Not all believers in God are mentally ill. But these primitive, self-proclaimed, prophets of God…
“That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.” Christopher Hitchens. What is the evidence that the Bible is the infallible word of God? One of the attributes ascribed to God in the Bible is omniscience, the absolute knowledge of all things in all time, space, and beyond. God simultaneously knows all of the past, all of the present, and all of the future with infallibility. The future that God infallibly foresees is so certain that…Continue
Theodicy is the branch of Christian theology concerned with defending the attributes of God (especially his absolute goodness) against objections resulting from physical and moral evil.
A common argument in the tradition of theodicy that I have heard Christians use is that physical and moral evil is the result of Adam and Eve's free will choice to sin by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, that this tied God's hands, so to speak, in preventing…
A controversial figure, Professor Richard Lynn,Emeritus Professor of Psychology at Ulster University, stirred controversy when he said that the intellectual elite such as scientists in different fields were more likely to be atheists, and implied that religious people have lower IQs than non-religious intellectuals.
There are other studies that have been done in the same area, and all came to the same conclusion. People who rely more on intuition (gut feeling) than on…
I thought I would add this blog since Easter has just passed.
"After that, he [Jesus] was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present [time], but some are fallen asleep (have died)". 1 Corinthians 15:6.
Many times I've heard Christians refer to this passage as firsthand, historical proof, of the alleged resurrection of Jesus. And that is how Christians view this verse. They accept it…
I do all my blogging on google blogs. I don't know if any believers can even access Atheist Nexus to see what is posted here. But anyone, believer and non-believer alike, can see my atheism blog on google blogs. If anyone might possibly be interested in viewing my atheism blog here is the link to it.
No worries. It's not a rant against atheism. It is pro-atheism, as I am a confirmed…Continue
