Rape row sparks excommunications

And who, you may ask, is being threatened with excommubication? The stepfather who had been sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl since she was six?

Of course not.

A Brazilian archbishop says all those who helped a child rape victim secure an abortion are to be excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

What I find objectionable is the… Continue

Silly T-Shirts and other nuttiness

According to the Daily Telegraph's religion blog, American born-again Christians, have launched a series of t-shirts so that they can declare to the world what they're no longer doing...

Blasphemy Day International 2009

Blasphemy Day International is an international campaign seeking to establish September 30th as a national day to promote free speech and stand up in a show of solidarity for the freedom to mock and insult religion without fear of murder, violence, and reprisal. Irrelevancy: FAIL!

St Valentine 'not saint of love'

Britain's Roman Catholic Church is advising lovelorn singles to direct their February 14 requests for love to St Raphael, rather than St Valentine.

As if it matters which dead saint you direct your wishful thinking at.

Survey; FAIL

I've just noticed the survey on the front page of the Nexus asking: "Do you celebrate Christmas?" There are four options - two yes and two no - but my own preference is sadly missing. So I'll post it here instead.

Yes, I do celebrate Christmas and I had a rather good time of it last year. Christmas, for me, is a time to go back home and catch up with friends and family. It's a time to eat, drink and exchange presents. And I can enjoy all of this… Continue
