Do do That Voodoo...

Shocked to see people on a facebook account I follow still believe in hexes and curses. Grown adults! Nothing sadder than gullible adults who really oughta know better. If they replaced that gullibility with just an ounce of skepticism, they'd be all the better for it. Of course there is no shortage of charlatans out there ready to sell you potions and amulets to remove whatever spell you might be under. Too bad there is no antidote for stupidity.

Halfway there...

People who abandon organized religion but still believe in a creator/god, are what I call "halfway there." At least they're not out to hurt anyone with their beliefs, or impose their doctrine on anyone else. You hear a lot of people say, "I'm not religious, but I'm spiritual." A lot of time, these "spiritual" people will spend countless hours and money going from one new age fad to the next, looking for enlightenment or a deeper connection to god. This makes me sad, because I was once the…

Peace & Satan

Just had a flash of memory of being a kid and drawing peace symbols on everything and being scolded because it was a "broken cross" and therefore satanic. Now I see just how incongruous peace and christianity really truly are. Christians want war and always have, so its no wonder the peace sign would be an annoyance to them, even if subconsciously. I grew up in the days when satanic cults were all over the news and people thought you could hear messages from satan if you played certain rock…

Arguing with christians

I spent much of the morning yesterday, debating christians about gay marriage, on facebook. Some of the arguments were 'god made marriage to be between a man and a woman,' 'men parts were made to fit into women parts,' and the age old favorite 'if we open the door to gay marriage, then we open the door to people who wanna marry children, animals, multiple partners, etc.'  People truly are living in a religious bubble which cannot be penetrated by logic and reason. More than anything it made…

Gay Marriage

Things are beyond ridiculous in this country. Even if someone believes in god and believes god hates gays--or he's at the very least opposed to gay marriage--why don't they just go live their own lives and praise jesus as they will and let god deal with the gays in his own way? Better yet, why not actually do something positive with that god loving energy, like feed the hungry and clothe the poor? Why are gays so high on the list of things god want's them to deal with? It's hypocritical to…

Obama

I'm happy Obama came out in support of gay marriage, but disappointed he felt the need to pander to believers by saying he's a practicing christian. I'm also not sure what it accomplishes since it's a state by state issue. So, what have we really got, other than another politician doing his politic thing... :/

Amendment One

Tonight, America takes another giant step back, thanks to North Carolina voters. Keep running the country into the ground, religious right--and may you all have a gay son or daughter that will never be afforded the same freedoms your straight kids are. That's fair.

Enemies of god

Someone posted on Twitter this morning: God has many enemies--that he created himself! Was he just bored? --It made me laugh because its so true, if god is the creator of everything, then everything bad or evil comes directly from him--and yet people worship this dude! It reminds me of when I was a child and I asked my mother why god would have created lucifer knowing he would one day rebel against him. I think the answer went something like, "Oh honey you're just too young to understand."…

God's Plan

These girls on the bus today, talking very loudly so the rest of the bus could hear them. One of them said, "It wasn't in god's plan for me to marry him, so I had to end it." She went on to talk and I learned she had 2 children out of wedlock with her drug dealing boyfriend and was now seeing another man who she vowed to date for 8 years before marrying him. It just made me wonder how it could be god's plan for her to have 2 children out of wedlock with a drug dealer but not marry the guy. I…

Should Atheists Slam Religion Or Show Respect?

I had this man approach me in the supermarket and ask if I was interested in hearing about his "awesome" church. When I told him I was an Atheist, he literally fled from the store as if I was the devil himself. Many people seem to equate Atheism with evil. I think they need to look a little closer to home. Evil has a way of justifying itself when it has a doctrine to back it up. Anyway, this article is interesting, because as an Atheist, you do have to walk that line between ridicule and…

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 7 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
