I wish I changed my major. Now I want to die.

From my blog

Starting college I was a history nut. I loved doing historical reenactments, I loved reading history, I loved historical movies, everything. I remember consciously telling myself that I was going to major in something I…

Society will collapse without god!

From my blog

People have been warning that "society is going to collapse" since the dawn of societies millennia ago. Despite a track record of failure spanning longer than recorded time, some modern day religious people like to pull out this gem to argue that refusing to adhere to their world-view will cause the downfall of life as we know it. In actuality, it is the world view of the religious person that will collapse if everybody… Continue

Facts don't matter?

Taken from my blog

Ideally in a debate there are two sides, one makes a claim, the other tries to refute that claim. Both sides try to avoid logical fallacies and use objective, nonpartisan facts to determine in a claim is valid or not. If the evidence does not support the claim, then the side that made the claim admits they were wrong and everybody moves on. It would be wonderful if the world followed that…

Atheist Jobs?

Ok, this is driving me crazy. So I've recently finished college with a BA and now I'm looking for work, but I don't want just any job, I want a job working to help improve the position of Atheists in the US. It's something I'm very passionate about and I would love to pour my energy into it. Naturally I ask myself "Ok, what groups are there that you might like to work for?" I do a little research and come up with a list. FFRF, CFI, AA, AHA, just to name a few. So I've been sending my resume to… Continue

America: Should I stay or should I go?

Taken from my blog: http://godlesspaladin.wordpress.com/

This is a very hard post for me to write. These issues have been ricocheting around in my brain for a couple of months now, I thought writing them down would help me figure it all out. I’ve tried writing

this entry several times but I could never really collect all my

thoughts and try to get across what it is exactly I have to say. You

see, I am at a turning…

A generic god does not represent everyone...

Taken from my blog: http://godlesspaladin.wordpress.com/

Yesterday I met with a local Americans United for the Separation of

Church and State group here in Columbia, SC. We had a city council woman as our guest

speaker. She was there to explain why she thought it was necessary for

the city council to open each meeting with a prayer, despite the fact

that this is… Continue

What is “Choice” when it comes to faith?

Taken from my blog: http://godlesspaladin.wordpress.com/

It seems to me that a lot of religious people are confused as to what exactly is a choice and what it means to be able to choose freely.

A choice in it's most basic form is when you are presented with two or more options on how to proceed and you must pic one.

There is a major difference, however, between a free choice and an unfree…

The Rape of the Virgin Mary

From my blog: www.godlesspaladin.wordpress.com

Rape is non-consensual sexual activity. If a man or a woman does not give consent, then it is rape. (Same if they are unable to give consent, like drunk or passed out)

In the annunciation god just announces to Mary that she is pregnant.

Luke 1:26-35

In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a… Continue

The pope and condoms (again)

Taken from my blog:

Well, the pope is at it again. He's in Africa preaching the evils of condom use. In the most AIDs ridden part of the planet he's denouncing condoms as "not the answer." This is appalling because condoms are the most effective strategy to fighting AIDs according to the World Health Organization. When used… Continue

The difference between science and religion

Taken from my blog:

There is a fundamental difference in the ways science and religion operate. For religion, something just is. That's it. Either you believe X and the religion or you do not. There is no testing or experimenting with the religion or it's claims. Now sure there are doctrinal debates and the theologians who have them, but in the end it's still just another flavor of X which the believer must accept…

Support our [christian] troops

Taken from my blog:

When I'm not at college I'm back at my hometown which happens to be near the largest naval port in the world, and as such a lot of people have the "Support our troops" yellow ribbons on their cars. This is fine, I'm totally for supporting the brave men and women who fight for us, but what I have a problem with is how these ribbons are used. In case you don't know, the ribbons look like this:…

The virgin Mary wasn't a virgin....

Taken from my blog:

Later this week my religion class is going to be "debating" whether or not Jesus was born of a virgin. I of course am going to say he wasn't, and as practice thought I'd run through my reasons here.

What I think it comes down to is probability. Which is a more probable explanation for crop circles?

A) Aliens with super advanced technology that allows them to travel MILLIONS of light years… Continue

The bullshit idea of a "Secular society" in America

Taken from my blog:

I hear the phrase “secular society” thrown around a lot. Usually the people I hear using it are saying it with a tone of disgust in their voice, as if the secular society was keeping their religion from breathing easy, free from scrutiny or any kind of restraints.

So what exactly is a secular society? Well when I asked google to define it, all it did… Continue

Atheists can lead good lives too you know.....

Taken from my blog:

So today I had a short confrontation with my religions professor. After class she made a comment about how not believing in god gives you license to do whatever you want. I pointed out that this was not true, and wrote her the following letter, pointing out statistics of Atheists in prison, and divorce rates, along with religiosity’s correlation to the Human Development Index. The only license not believing… Continue

"Liberty" "University" is neither...

Taken from my blog:

The other day my girlfriend and I were driving down to the mall, passing "liberty" "university" when at a stop light a group of liberty students started angrily honking at me. They saw my atheist bumper sticker and gave me the finger. How christian of them. Who would Jesus flick off? I gave them the finger back as a knee-jerk reaction but instantly wished I had been more witty and given them the peace sign… Continue

Freedom of Speech and Religion

From my blog

I read an interesting article today. A Dutch MP is in trouble for making a video criticising islam. In the video he talks about how they are like nazis and extremely violent. Ironically he is now under 24/7 protection because he has received various death threats…. Reminds me a lot of these guys:…

What is it with sheep?

From my blog

I had yet another religious pamphlet waiting for me on my car again today. (Like something telling me how I’m a horrible sinner and I need to buy their product in the form of converting to their church is going to make me see the “light”) Anywho, this pamphlet prominently featured a background image of sheep, with the big title “The lord is my shepherd.”

Now I get the whole “lord is my… Continue

The selfishness of religion

Taken from my blog

It’s been a while since I last posted since classes just started up a little bit ago. One of the classes I’m taking is a comparative religion’s class. The class covers christianity, islam, and judaism. What transpired yesterday in the class really infuriated me.

We were talking about how people always try to rationalize bad events, like tsunami’s, floods, terrorist attacks, etc… One guy raised his hand… Continue
