Indie Music

My fave indie music label Serious Business just released their latest album by the band Secret Dakota Ring. You can watch the video for the decidedly nifty single "The Fade to Black", download an MP3 for free if you like the song or better yet buy the whole album and thus support independent music by clicking here:… Continue

On Spiritual Humanism (or religion based on reason)

For the first time since jumping off the fence I have been tempted... at www.spiritualhumanism.org apparently you can be ordained as a member of the Spiritual Humanist clergy with only one requisite, agreeing to the following statement Religion must be based on Reason.

Spiritual Humanism defines itself as a religion based on the ability of human beings to solve the problems of society using logic and science. Furthermore, the site goes on to explain how Spiritual Humanism… Continue

saXas Quatuor

This week I had the pleasure of attending a recital given by this extremely talented quartet of swiss-latino saxophones who boast the palindromic name of "saXas". The ensemble played jazzed-up versions of La Danza, Historia del Tango and Suite Hellenica among others.

Mélanie Clivaz, founder of the ensemble and alto saxophone player, is hypnotic. While performing the Suite Hellenica I could just imagine this delicate pale woman in a void in which she shined… Continue

mmm...bacon!

I've got something to confess. I attended sunday mass service this past weekend. I know, I shouldn't... but I was promised brunch afterwards so I couldn't resist...stupid fundie date...damn. Mass wasn't that bad, and the bacon was really good. I just wish the service included dazzling buccaneer garb and pirate lingo like FSM church.

At some point I'm going to have to come clear with Jesús about my pastafarian beliefs, just not when bacon is involved.

I think this is what I… Continue

Hell: grand inauguration spring 2008

Earlier this year Pope Benedict XVI said, "hell is a place where sinners really do burn in an everlasting fire, and not just a religious symbol designed to galvanise the faithful". By contrast, in 1999 Pope John Paul II said hell was, "the ultimate consequence of sin itself. Rather than a place, hell indicates the state of those who freely and definitively separate themselves from God, the source of all life and joy".

According to the catholic dogma of papal infallibility, which… Continue

Jesus my Savior

This morning, as I was walking home, at the far end of the street the most amazing cloud of smog I've ever seen caught my attention. It didn't rise and dissolve itself in the atmosphere but instead seemed to be revolving madly upon itself, as if it were inside an invisible giant blender. Curiosity piqued, I kept walking towards it, thoughts absorbed in examining the details of this bizarre atmospheric phenomenon.

The cloud was just a few feet above the ground but it was far too small… Continue

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 5 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…
