I wonder sometimes, if there was no religion, would the hairless apes of Planet Earth simply latch onto some other ideal or philosophy that they would be willing to kill for? Someone once told me that faith was the culprit in clashes like this one
rather than belief in a god or a religion.
Faith can be placed in anything I suppose, whether it is a person, place, thing, idea, or philosophy. However, it seems to… Continue

I uploaded this video for the "We Are Atheism" project at http://www.weareatheism.com/
. If you're an outspoken atheist, I encourage you to do the same and help make our presence better well known.

A fellow "heathen" forwarded this article to me from a Christian web site. It seems there are concerns among the religious that the internet is allowing non-theist people to connect, spreading critical thinking and skepticism that could be eroding away at the growth of Christianity among the younger members of our society (as if that was a bad thing ;-)). … Continue

In a light conversation with theist coworkers this morning, one of them dropped this gem after I said that I didn't believe in the existence of God or Satan because I didn't believe in any supernatural deity or deities:
"God isn't a deity. He's a god!" o.O

From the "Why-does-anyone-take-this-guy-seriously?" department:
Newt Gingrich, in an address to thousands of evangelical Christians, stated that he feared that we would become a secular atheist country. But that's not all! We could become a secular atheist country dominated by radical Islamists!
He's peddling the fear of "all our enemies conspiring against us" and people are buying into this utter nonsense. Not only is he insulting atheists, he's showing his… Continue

Just now saw this on NPR's web site. They're not arguing whether or not there should be a prayer, but if invited clergy should be "required" to lead a non-denominational prayer.

Someone (I don't know who) in the office where I work likes to leave religious pamphlets in our break room. Currently it's something about "Marriage and God's Plan". Ack!
I have some nice Atheist pamphlets I could leave out "to balance things out". I'm contemplating this, but I'm concerned about repercussions. There are a few coworkers who know about my Atheism. Some are fine with it, others not so much. Given times the way they are, I am a bit fearful of stirring things up… Continue

I spend a lot of time on Face Book, and come here with questions and rants.
I'm in the middle of friendly debate/discussion with a Christian cousin (who recently found me on FB after 20+ years and discovered I was a "gasp" Atheist). The arguments are old and boring. How do you tell a relative to fuck off without telling him to "fuck off"?

"We want to stand upon our own feet and look fair and square at the world ‐‐ its good facts, its bad facts, its beauties, and its ugliness; see the world as it is and be not afraid of it. Conquer the world by intelligence and not merely by being slavishly subdued by the terror that comes from it. The whole conception of a God is a conception derived from the ancient oriental despotisms. It is a conception quite unworthy of free men. When you hear people in church debasing themselves and saying… Continue

Wife doesn't get it. Theist Friends don't get it. Family doesn't get it. Tired of arguing. Tired of the fucking innuendos about burning in hell. Since when is "I don't believe" an attack on anyone's intelligence? I'm just frustrated and pissed off. It's the same old fucking story that we've all dealt with at one time or another. Thanks to my AN friends for being here and letting me decompress!.
BTW: This post was fueled by Keystone Ice. It's cheap ass beer, but it's cheap! ;-)

Copied off of someone on FB. I think I'll post this on my FB page the next time I feel like ruffling a few feathers :-)

I posted the following on my FB acount:
"Oral Roberts died...I guess he wasn't able to account for not comimg up with that $8 Million, eh? Tasteless humor, yes, I know, but it needed to be said... He had it coming though. The man was completely ________ (fill in the blank)."
I got several comments with a larger than expected number of them standing up for the dirt bag. Dead or not, he was a flim-flam artist and we're better off without him!
Thanks for allowing me to… Continue

So I've made it no secret on my FB account for the past year or so that I'm an Atheist. I post various notes and links referring to Atheist topics. As various friends and family have become FB friends, I have continued this practice, and let them find out for themselves. No conflicts until now.
My niece posted a YouTube link about "The Atheist Professor who declared that if god existed, he would stop a piece of chalk from shattering when it hit the floor." Oh Wow! I had seen so many… Continue

I'm in the middle of a FB argument with an agnostic/deist friend. He contends (and I know we've all heard this one before) that atheists have just as much blind faith in no-god as a fundamentalist has in god. Sigh....
I grew up being taught that an invisible, magical omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being created everything and watches my every move. I got older and found that the only evidence was anecdotal, and that the only documentation was written in contradictory "books"… Continue

I knew that G. W. Bush was big on religion, but took most of what he said about it as rhetoric. Apparently, however, this guy actually was fanatical in his beliefs.

I've come to like the term Obsessive Atheist. Perhaps I'll create a blog site with that title :)
My old high school buddy on Facebook, the Assemblies of God preacher, has struck a nerve again.
I'm posting the thread with him and one of his sheep (without names) here:
Preacher:It is written in 1 Corinthians 16:22-If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema.(cursed) Maranatha.(Our Lord come). The apostle Paul did not candy coat the Word of God… Continue
