Please Read: Sleazy anti-Atheist article in the Oregon Daily Emerald

A rather nasty rant from Portland State University's Daily Vanguard was ran in today's UofOregon Daily Emerald. Most of the time, The Daily Emerald is pretty good at remaining unbiased or at least un-inflammatory. I've never read anything this hateful in my college paper. Please take the time to read it and I would appreciate it if this gets spread around the Atheist blogosphere. This article was originally ran in PSU's paper last November, and for UofO's paper to run it now seems very odd… Continue

solar eclipse superstition

Apparently there will be a solar eclipse this week. If someone knows the exact date, please tell me because I want to watch! I have seen lunar and solar eclipses before, and while they were definitely cool, I never noticed any fear or worry surrounding them. Apparently, the eclipse that will occur this week is supposed to be unique according to astrologers. The article, however, does not explain why this solar eclipse will cause tragic events and not all the other ones. Have there been any… Continue

Atheist Bible Study

I'm supposed to be organizing an Atheist Bible Study for my school's atheist club. I don't really know the best way to do this. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks

Pro-choicers please help

I'm a member of Students for Choice at the University of Oregon. About a month ago we (S4C) held a protest outside of a Crisis Pregnancy Center that just happens to be right across the street from the Planned Parenthood. Crisis Pregnancy Centers lie to women to scare them out of getting an abortion if they need one. They only offer one solution to vulnerable girls: have the baby and/or never have sex except inside marriage. We posted the video on Youtube and lo and behold we have conservative… Continue

Conservative and liberal fear of science

I am not by any means good at science, in fact I avoid taking science classes as much as possible knowing I'll be confused on the first day. But I try to stay as informed as any lay person can. For most of my life I lived in Orange County where a good portion of the population believes in Creationism or Intelligent Design and deny Global Warming. Now, I live in Eugene, where a good portion of the population are non-religious and very liberal. However, I've noticed a similar level of… Continue

Mixed feelings about going home for the Holidays

This is the second school year I have lived in Oregon. Last year I went to Oregon State University so I was in Corvallis and then I transfered to University of Oregon (I know - I'm a traitor) so I'm in Eugene this year. As a Feminist and Environmentalist (Eco-feminist!), living in Oregon, especially liberal Eugene has been a really eye-opening experience. I love how Oregonians fill up with pride from buying local products. It's easier to find little ma'n'pa shops, nightlife, political/academic… Continue

McCain has angered me

As a feminist and as a Democrat I was so amazed by both Obama's and Hillary Clinton's historic campaigns. I voted for Obama, but I would have supported Clinton if she had won and definately look forward to the day that I see a woman president. With that said, I'll be proud to vote for Obama and Biden, especially because of their support for women's rights.

Well, this morning, we all learned that McCain's VP running mate will be a woman. An anti-choice woman. Both McCain and Sarah… Continue
