Wishful thinking.
As around 85% of people in US believe in some god, and do not even know the reason why they do, do not know what they believe, are not susceptible to reasonable discussion and do not want to discuss religious matters because it would shake their faith, it is difficult to avoid or influence this majority of people, most of whom are decent law-abiding citizens but are unwilling to investigate their faith.
