My Atheism Doesn’t Need Evolution

Atheists are often portrayed as die hard believers in evolution, and atheism is quite often portrayed as being dependent upon believing in the validity of evolution. But you know what? Some people, such as myself, did not need to rely on Darwin to steer our courses off the path of religion and onto the path of reason.

Consider:

The bible was not created by a god nor inspired by the word of any god. It was written by a number of people who tried…

Valid and Invalid Beliefs: The Pope and Other Carlatans

Over the past week I have engaged a number of christians on Twitter, and it seems as though evidence for beliefs, and specifically, what is it that makes beliefs valid or invalid. So I want to address directly the nature of valid and invalid beliefs, and then would like to shift my focus to one tweeter in particular and the pope and some comments he recently made.

The Time Has Come: Put catholics in Their Place

On July 1, 2011, Dalton McGuinty, the Premier of Ontario, announced that starting in Spetember, catholic schools would no longer be allowed to prohibit the formation of gay-straight alliances by students. In an address by a Member of Provincial Parliament, Glenn Murray (Toronto Center), read a statement from the Premier during Toronto’s Pride Week. The statement read, “Starting in September, it will be students, not principals or school boards, that will decide whether a school has an LGBT… Continue

Apologists of Circumcision

The Columbus, Ohio newspaper, The Republic, just today printed the story Religion: Battle Over Circumcision, describing the battle that is erupting in San Francisco over a November 8 ballot that would ban male circumcision. While much of the article tries to distract readers from the issue by making reference to Foreskin Man and how it incites the anger of religious groups like Jews. I think the real issue is not what the author of “Foreskin Man” is up to, but the fact that there is an…

Even More catholic Whining

Back on June 13, 2011, I wrote the blog post More catholic Whining, in which I described the situations happening in some States like New York and Illinois, involving certain catholic charities having issues with their states making it illegal to discriminate against straight couples in common law relationships and to discriminate against gay couples when providing fostering and adoption services. Now I thought this story was…

The Rednecks are coming, the Rednecks are coming

Actually, the rednecks are here and everywhere. Let me say, I'm not a big fan of these people. That's putting it mildly. Need I describe them? You know who I mean. This seems to be the time of year when they come out of the woodwork. Here in Indiana, as the weather gets nice, the motorcyclists are out in full force. I hate the noise cycles make. Then there's the Indianapolis 500 fans, the majority of which are rednecks. Interview them or a typical Pacer fan (big news as they face the Miami…See More

"Maybe so. Ad that the Pope has no power over anything or anybody except for the power given to him by the office and the world at large today."

Dennis Michael Pennington commented on matthew greenberg's blog post War on Christmas in May
"Happy Holidays is a good enough saying for anyone at Christmas time. I support the phrase "happy holidays" rather than the bullshit most Americans were taught. Let's go back in time to look at meanings here. "Holidays"…"
