New Novel with Atheist Theme

I'd like to share the news that my novel, "The Holy Family," is now available in paperback and digital editions.

Dale McGowan, author of the forthcoming "Atheism for Dummies," had this to say about "The Holy Family": "'The Holy Family' is a rich and engrossing story, elegant and moving. Though it…

A KINKY PARAMIOGRAPHY ON A SMELLY THEME

When we study science, in particular evolutionary biology, it becomes pretty evident that humans were the result of purposeless and random forces of nature.  We are not what natural selection had in mind because there is no mind.

So instead of attributing our existence to some patriarchal god, let’s take it for what it is: It just is.  Like the old song says, “Let’s live and laugh at it all.”

You can lead a hog to a pigsty but you can’t make him stink.  (From the…

Accidental gospel study

For the last couple days I've been working on writing a comedic parody of the life of the character Jesus. I won't tell you my storyline yet, but rest assured it's a laugh to write and hopefully it will be to read when done. An interesting consequence though of this project is that it's giving me the closest look I've had at the gospels since I was a kid and I'm noticing things I never did before.

The first observation--I'll put more later--is the frequent recurrence of…

Old Warehouse

This started out as free writing but turned into something.

"Do you have it?" Red said.
"Yes." William answered, lifting a large duffel bag.
"Where did you find it?"
"Does it matter?"
"Yes."
"Well I prefer to keep that a secret. Do you have the money?"

Make your own creation myth

This is somethimg I thought would be interesting: Write a creation myth. It doesn't have to be the creation of this world it can be the creation of a fantasy world, alien world, etc. You can have one god, many gods or no gods.

Heres one for a story idea I had that would probably be allot better off as a game scrip.

In the beginning there was only void and from the void came Phoenix and Lóng. Phoenix and Lóng battled, from their battle came Air,…

Blood Moon Chapters 5-7

Chapter 5

“This is the largest institute for science and sorcery in the world” Yosef said as he, the old man, Wafai, Iosef and two guards walked though a large hallway, Yosef leading the way.

“It is impressive.” Wafai said.

“It certainly is Wafai.”

“How do you know my name? We hadn’t been introduced.”

“Iosif informed me.”

“My hearing is better that humans, I herd the whole massage he… Continue

Blood Moon Chapter 3 Rewritten

Blood Moon Chapter 3 rewritten

I was dissatisfied with the existing chapters, the story wasn’t bad but the writing was terrible so I rewrote them

A man ran though the burnt out remains of a house. His hair brown, his skin tan, his cloths covered in dry blood. “Yemima! Illean!” The man called but no one answered. The man stopped in the middle of the remains he beheld a burned and dismembered corpse of a woman.… Continue

Genetic Memory (Flash-fiction)

By me.

Alternate title: Instinct

Long ago the Thunderbird brought rain to Vancouver island, the Nuu-chah-nulth tribe remembers. But if you ask Marlon Lowe, age thirty-two, he’ll tell you that Thunderbird’s no god. He still remembers that summer evening in 1977 when those two black thunderbirds swooped into his backyard and tried to carry him away.

Can there be any truth to this tale? On the other side of the Atlantic, Zimbabwe fishermen tell tales of the… Continue

Who is the newest writer for Skeptical Inquirer? I AM!

Over the past few weeks I've been talking with Skeptical Inquirer Magazine about writing reviews for skeptics on their website. I'm elated to say the kinks have been worked out and it's official; I'm their voice in the dark (theater). This is a fantastic opportunity for me to write for people like me and I couldn't be more excited that it is with SI. It's more than a little embarassing how much I've been dancing around my house, the store, in bed, at the DMV, and in my car.

This is a… Continue

Twilight tries to make absteince 'cool'

After all the fuss about Twilight I finally decided to read it. Originally, I pushed it off as nothing more than a fad book, that is mediocre at best, my expectations were not quashed as I read through this book.

Myers had other motives for this book, obviously and her Christian faith had a strong influence on the behavior of her characters.

The basic plot of the story is, Bella, a 17 year old girl, falls "in love" (more like becomes infatuated with) Edward Cullen a 104… Continue

Recovered Voices, Artistic Cooperation

In between hacking homebrew D&D variants together, tweaking the css for my profile page, and wishing I could afford Aion, I was reminded of something I wanted to do a while ago. Well, months ago now. Maybe even the better part of a year. In fact, as I check it, apparently it's been more than a year, which is slightly scary.

Anyway, it's been a long time since I wrote a song (mostly because it's just easier when you're a whiny, romantic religious… Continue

My Squidoo Lenses Need Some Love

I started writing a lens on Squidoo to promote some of my atheist relevant web content but then I branched out from there to other topics.

If you want to help a starving atheist afford her meds next month, visit some of my Squidoo lenses. My rankings increase according to the number of views I get combined with the star ratings others give my pages. All of this adds up to about $12 per month for lenses that stay in the top two thousand on Squidoo.

So you can help the poor… Continue

Help!

I'm taking a creative writing class this quarter. Our first assignment is to create a character adn a setting that we will use in the rest of our assignments. Both have to be contemporary, and we're forbidden from creating sci-fi/fantasy style characters/settings. :(

I'm less disappointed by this than I thought I would be, but I'm not quite sure what exactly I want to go with. I think I have it boiled down to a few different alternatives: a teen-aged non-believer living with… Continue

Lost in translation

I am by no means a perfect speller,

Or even great at grammar,

But reading a post written in text-speak

Is like bashing my eyes with a hammer!

Seriously, I cannot be the only one

Who sees are language die

Every time u use u for "you"

and refuse to capitalize an i.

when numbers stand 4 words

and punctuations thrown 2 the wind

i dont no where 1 line ends

n where the next begins...

Some People Just Don't Get Satire It Seems

I keep getting comments, pm's, and emails regarding a satire piece I wrote for Christmas. There's even a 'Stumbler' who thought the article was serious and reviewed it as if it were here.

Darwinian Natural Selection in Today's Society

(Originally posted on my personal blog, BrainlessGeorge.com.)

I stand firm with my thoughts on Darwinian Natural Selection. I’m quite sure that it has happened in humans in even recorded history. I think that the technological advances, and forms of entertainment, all have implications of evoluation. Since the dawn of man we’ve been evolving and furthering our thinking.

Why?

To better survive in an ever changing… Continue

On obsession

Why do we do it?

I've become overly obsessive about my schoolwork, mostly to avoid having to deal with a whole host of other problems that have come up recently. It's nothing new, just stuff that I'm really really tired of having to not deal with or address.

I'm bugging the hell out of my friends and even people that I don't know all that well, because I'm feeling so unhappy that it's bleeding out of me everywhere. I try to stop, but when I do, it pops out with someone or… Continue
