Not Even An Apology (For Destroying Countless Lives)

Richard Nixon

It’s fitting to have this war criminal, McCarthyite and lying “crook” who abandoned the White House in disgrace, as the figurehead for the modern War on Drugs, the holocaust of the modern age.  Tens of thousands of lives were ruined, psychologically damaged (including mine), and plain murdered to keep the nightmare going.  All perpetrated so many professions could feed off the mayhem like sea gulls circling a countless school of surface-feeding sardines. …

Asymetrical Warfare and Iraq

I think that some global understanding needs to be established or affirmed regarding asymmetrical warfare. Something useful may not be possible, but I thought it was at least worth discussion.

How does a recognized government face an enemy with no specified geographic boundary, no diplomatic capacity or public leader?

It is very easy to point to formal positions regarding 'unlawful combatants,' but I can't help but think that our current understandings are not really doing the…

Violence Revisited

Chickens Come Home to Roost

Note: I wrote this piece in 2010 because of US involvement in constant war. I knew about many of the wars via the movies (World Wars I & II, Korea). I was in the Army during Vietnam and witnessed several other US "interventions since then. This piece is only here because of one paragraph, which I highlighted in red. I will say up front that it took no…

War on Christmas: $80 blasphemous ugly sweater giveaway contest!

Christmas isn’t a big deal here in Taiwan, so it’s hard to get “in the season” or riled up by this “War on Christmas” controversy. But I want to celebrate the meaning of Christmas by giving away two things I really want, rather than buying them for myself.

First up is this amazing Christmas “ugly-sweater” with Baphomet on it.…

Thoughts of an Aug. 9 birthday child

“Hell no, we won’t go!”

60s anti-war slogan

It’s nice to have a birthday in the summer – guaranteed good weather (almost).  My early parties were well attended (everybody home from vacation) and outdoors.  But I know why seniors tend to disregard birthdays: as the number of enjoyed August 9ths gets more numerous, so does the number of anticipated August 9ths shrink.

As a speechwriter, I learned such obscure facts as my shared birthdate with Francis Scott…

Happy 10th, Iraq War

“I have been meaning to write to you for some time, and the tenth anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq war provides as good an occasion as any to do so. Distracted by other, more recent eruptions of violence, the country has all but forgotten the war. But I won’t and I expect you can’t, although our reasons for remembering may differ.”

--Andrew Bacevich, letter to Paul Wolfowitz, Harper’s magazine, March 2012

Dumb question: Why have the…

Don't Talk to Christians

Having a conversation, either on line or face to face, with a Christian is something all of us have endured. Just out of curiosity, can anybody point to an incident where they accomplished anything by doing so? I know I can’t, but maybe some of you have a higher tolerance for fools than me.

So why talk to them? Perhaps you are afraid that by not responding you concede the argument and they win by default. This appears to have merit until you examine the idea closer. The premise is you…

“Thirty years ago, they couldn’t force me to come here…”

“…the name Vietnam…arrived…as a summary and combination of everything one had ever learned…about the horrors of war.  There was something profoundly, horribly shocking in the odds and the proportions of the thing.  To all appearances, it seemed as if a military-industrial superpower was employing a terrifying aerial bombardment of steel and explosives and chemicals to subdue a defiant agrarian society.  I had expected the newly-elected Labour government to withhold British…

It's quite simple in regards to Romney's past. (Hid from Vietnam w/Mormon mission in France!?)

Ah the old smoke and mirrors through faith-fronting-corporate offshore stuff has never been so clear aye?

Year of the Bible? Give Me a Break

Pennsylvania legislators recently adopted a resolution that among other things encourages Pennsylvanians to study the tenets of the Bible and says there is a "national need to study and apply scripture." The Freedom from Religion Foundation filed suit charging that the resolution violates the "separation of church and state."…

Tunnel Vision is 20/20

When it comes to morals it seems that Christians never get above the belt-buckle unless it is to peer behind a brassiere. Genes for sexual obsession passed down from the Catholic Church evidently have not mutated over the centuries as Christian leaders remain overly concerned with who's doing who, how they are doing it and if there are any naked people or pictures anywhere near.

To be sure there is a need for watchdog organizations and laws keeping dangerous sexual predators, perverts…

Mondo Diablo Episode 308: The Reformation in 20 minutes

A wondrous May Day for all of you! As you MUST know, this is the start of Beltane to end on Halloween with Samhain (SAW-Win). Whatever that means. I have an inkling, but as they say, a little too much information is a dangerous thing. Secularly, it has to do with fertility/new spring planting and ends with the harvest. Ah, the harvest. So what better way to celebrate the beginning of planting season with… Continue
