Victim-talk vs. Initiator-talk

The problem, as I see it, is people who have been trained to be dependent, passive, and subordinate do not think in terms of independence, dominance and action orientation. I hear "victim-talk" instead of "initiator-talk".

Victim vocabulary:

victim, fatality, loser, prey, stooge, dupe, sucker, fool, fall guy, chump, patsy, sap, sacrificial lamb, burnt offering, scapegoat; …

The Benefits of Reading

must apologize up front for the length of this article. Although it is long, it contains a list of book I've encouraged my sons to read and so far they have done as I asked. I don't know where any of them stand spiritually, but I know that none of them attend church or…

The Book Of Life

I have been often troubled by the many mortal human attitudes and behaviors many different deities have taken on in various holy texts. Petty emotions like jealously, bigotry, hate, anger, and lust, to name a few. All of these…

We Are Just Animated Pieces Of Meat

If you haven’t read the recent Daily Mail piece by A.N. Wilson, I would recommend you do so to follow along with what I am about to go on about. Some of you might already be familiar with his emotional appeal drivel for Christ and might be able to save yourself the agony of reading more of his…

Free Will?

Many of the basic principles that guide human behavior rest on the idea of free will, like the concept of individual responsibility and choices.

Free will is an important concept that affects a variety of serious thought. Legally it is assumed criminals have a choice in committing a crime, but science shows…

Sex and atheism: Greta Christina educates us

I continue to chafe at some of the so-called intellectuals on Free Thought Blogs continually referring to atheism as a "movement" and associating it with all these other causes that actual nonbelievers have every right to care about or not. I happen to think that supporting equal rights with no preference given to either gender is a positive thing, and this is why I have a reservations about feminism. I happen to think that a progressive view of politics is the best way to move society…

I'M REALLY TICKED OFF NOW!!!!

I’m really ticked off now…..BIG TIME!

Last night I expected all the “rapture”  yahoo’s to be gone.  All I expected to find was a bunch

of clothes, empty house, apartments, mobile homes and the like.  Cars just left on the street with the keys in them.

I had planned to go out looting. I was gonna clean up with the cash they left…

no one expects the spanish inquisition!!!

not sure anyone is interested in this or not, but i stumbled across a multi-episode documentary from canada on the inquisition. it's kinda low budget, but still interesting.

the first episode is a little slow, but episode 2 and 3 are good.

it really gets me pissed off at points... torturing and killing people for nothing.

and occasionally there is a catholic priest who makes some comment like "well, we have to take these things in context of the society at that… Continue

The "We Say So" factor of Religions and Beliefs

I’m constantly amazed by the “flexibility” of “religion.”

If you’re a homosexual then certain charity or faith based charity medical will deny you medical help.

I’m sure “Christ” asked before he laid his hands on people what their sexual persuasion was.

And that “Gays” and “Lesbians” can’t go to heaven. I was under the impression that there was some guy with a book at the front of heaven that directed you where to go.

Silly… Continue

A fun thought experiment.

I have a tendency to think about random things, almost all the time. Well this morning I thought of an interesting question, I'm not sure of the influences of others though I'm sure there are some.

If you could go back in time and change any one event what event would you change?

I feel it necessary to point out that changing an event may not have a significant effect on history. For example if I were to go back and prevent Columbus from making his voyage of… Continue

asleep in God

My reply to The Cost of Religion thread

Because of God a people slept

For God they conquered

Mothers wept

For king and country under God

Over they innocent they trod

Yea, there were those to question "why?"

In public did those people die

God gave the rulers holy right

God's… Continue

Why do Christians still love the Roman Empire so much?

Taken from my blog at http://beinghuman.blogs.fi

The freedom on thinking and the general development of societies have always been following a common path. The Greece of antiquity reached unprecedented achievement in science and arts when their religion did not really stall the development of the free thought in this society.

When thinking became freer, there was an explosion of ideas and also a new kind of economic vitality that made the material improvement of this… Continue
