Book Review: The Good Atheist - That's what he/she said!

I bent the binding of The Good Atheist, Living a Purpose-Filled Life Without God, by Dan Barker, in hopes that I would either come out of it in some way affirmed or finally have a resource for a person struggling with the decision to let go of their faith.  When I closed the book, I felt like a sore eared member of the choir.  The majority of Barker’s book is an appeal to authority and celebrity, a mishap of astonishing proportion when speaking about, to, or for, a community that…

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

When two adolescent owls are relocated, they are faced with a choice: go along with it, or do the right thing. Drawing from the great stories of yore, the animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is an aesthetic wonderment that captured my attention and used the occasional depth of plot to hold me tight.

The cynical Kludd (Ryan Kwanten), his cheerful brother Soren (Jim Sturgess), and their freakishly adorable little sister Egaltine (Adreinne DeFaria) live nestled safely… Continue

One, Two and a Few Sentence Movie Reviews

It has been a crazy couple of weeks and writing has not come easily so I just threw together these short reviews of GI Joe, Julie and Julia, Away we Go, and Aliens in the Attic as well as a complete review on District 9.

Aliens in the Attic

After an hour of dimwitted dialogue, the alien planet the antagonists hail from becomes a viable option to escape the mind-numbing effects of this movie.

Harry Potter and the Half Assed Film

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the sixth movie in Harry Potter film series. Too dependent on previous films or expecting the audience to have read the books, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince fails to develop into a complete movie.

Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is whisked away by his professor and fellow wizard Dumbledore (Michael Gambon )to meet with Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) to encourage him to return to his professorship at Hogwarts School. Harry and… Continue

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 Review: Action + Action + Action + Action + Action

When a subway car is taken hostage, it’s left to the dispatcher to save the passengers from the gunmen. Packed with action and sprinkled with emotion, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, based on a book of the same name by John Godey, is a satisfying action-packed escape.

Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) is directing motormen through the tunnels of the New York Subway when armed men take control of a train. Ryder (John Travolta), the leader of… Continue

Land of the Lost Review - American Cheese

Dr. Rick Marshall, bent on proving his crack-pot theory, is literally dumped into a land with dinosaurs, distant primates and evil alien overlords. Land of the Lost suffers from a lack of comedic timing, outdated effects, pitiful editing, and painfully shallow writing, but offers plain silliness as a consolation prize.

Disgraced and outcast, Dr. Rick Marshall (Will Farrell) is inspired to finish his work by graduate student Holly Cantrell (Anna Friel). Using the newly finished… Continue
