GUNS AND BIBLES - Ameican Christians like to howl about their persecution, but it's hard to feel their pain. Having control over almost all political posts, have unlimited money and influence, and can demonize and run rough-shod…

Chapter 4 hath arrived!!
Let’s groove tonight!!
“The man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have produced a man with the help of the LORD." Next she bore his brother Abel. Abel became a keeper of flocks, and Cain a tiller of the soil. In the course of time Cain brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit of the soil, while Abel, for his part, brought one of the best firstlings of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his… Continue

2009 was the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin birth and also the 150th anniversary of the publishing of On The Origins of Species In 1859. In The United Kingdom the Royal Mint has issued a commemorative two pound coin with the stuck pose of Darwin on the right facing across from a portrayal of chimpanzee. On the front of the coin is, of course, the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin is issued in a limited edition and you may be able to order on from the website listed… Continue

I always think it is funny when I post a spoof article and some people say: "That's not true!" and post a Snope's link, debunking the story. I tend to think that some stories are obviously jokes. So, I thought it would be fun to show you how some spoof articles, like those of the Onion, are written. They take a real article, like this one: … Continue

When two adolescent owls are relocated, they are faced with a choice: go along with it, or do the right thing. Drawing from the great stories of yore, the animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is an aesthetic wonderment that captured my attention and used the occasional depth of plot to hold me tight.
The cynical Kludd (Ryan Kwanten), his cheerful brother Soren (Jim Sturgess), and their freakishly adorable little sister Egaltine (Adreinne DeFaria) live nestled safely… Continue

So I got all nervous thinking that I wasn't going to comprehend what was written in this book. After the first chapter, big sigh of relief. I'm not going to babble on about the theories and laws Hawking and Mlodinow used to lead up to their theory of how we came into existence. I think the point of this book, IS there is finally a theory.
I feel like this book was meant to put out a rational non fantasy based argument for the existence of a uni/multiverse that doesn't have god in it.… Continue

Its a question that people have grappled with for millennia: Where did the universe come from? People came up with creation myths to answer it but didn’t have any concrete answers and its still the same today. While we have strong and well supported theories to explain things all the way back to 10-34 seconds after the big bang but from before moment zero to then is still a mystery.
So the question still remains but that doesn’t mean there are not possible answers.
But wait,… Continue

My grandmother is a huge fan of the 'Left Behind
books. I find them to be generally distasteful, but interesting in concept. The question of what the rest of us would do if some significant portion of the population was 'gone' (abducted by aliens, turned into zombies, killed by a plague, wiped out in a war,… Continue

My father is dying. He is dying but he is happy. He will be 80 in October and he may make it that far, though we are not sure. He is in pain and he has been struggling for many years with breathing and chest pain as well as pain in his legs.
But I do not want to dwell on the pain. I think there are many women who think of their fathers as heroes. I know this is true for me. When I was little I wanted to be just like him and one would often… Continue

When I posted on my other diary about the movie The Fourth Kind an atheist friend of mine was like, "Oh I'm never going to Nome, alienz will get me!"
I responded with an incredulous "how much pot do you smoke?" and a list of reasons I don't think it's a factual story any more than DIsney's Pocahantas was a factual story. He got pissed and started calling me a brainwashed idiot. All of a sudden I am dumb and "can't think" because I don't believe it was real. Then he said he was… Continue

It seems the older I get the lighter the sleeper I become. There was a time that you could shine a bright light in my eyes and blast music in my ears and I would not awake.
After the birth of each of my children I would instantly wake to the sounds of them crying or even moving around in their beds but I could sleep through anything else. Eventually I'm pretty sure I slept through some tears.

Hundreds of early human fossils, artifacts and forensically re-created faces of our prehistoric relatives have gone on display at the National Museum of Natural History, exploring 6 million years of evolution. The nearly $21 million Hall of Human Origins marks the 100th anniversary of the Smithsonian Institution museum and represents the most comprehensive look at human evolution since its… Continue
