Preaching On Social Media - via rottingthoughts.wordpress.com

We’ve all been there at some point. You log onto your favorite social media website like Facebook, and as you scroll through the many status updates in your news feed with highlights about your Aunt Martha’s cat, or your friend’s son that lost a tooth, you see this:

If you are irreligious like myself, all you see is this:…

Warning!

How dangerous is it to ask the government for psychological help?  Atheist see the government as a place that is presently over run with religious dogma and having lack of real evidence based thinkers.  At least if there is any they seem to be in the minority.  The debate over guns in America begs the question, "What will Americas position be on help for the people who are in need for psychological help"?  Will there be enough knowledge about psychology to trickle out of the corners of…

"I Can't Afford the Twitter."

“Remarks are not literature.”  (27 characters) Gertrude Stein, The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, 1933

Percentage of Americans under 35 who say they text, tweet or check their Facebook pages right after sex: 36. Harper’s Index, Feb. 2010

It is not too surprising that Twitter-hating has grown as fast as Twitter itself.  I got over 450,000 hits for “I hate Twitter.”  A shot at…

Is there something wrong with people who do not use Facebook? Hardly!

Recent news stories have suggested that employers may be reluctant to hire people without a Facebook profile on the grounds that Facebook usage has become so common that not having an account is seen as somehow abnormal. This concern appears to have been compounded by a lurid report in a German…

A “True” Story Posted by My Grandfather to Facebook, or What Older Generations Really Think of Young People

A “True” Story Posted by My Grandfather to Facebook, or What Older Generations Really Think of Young People

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's…

Even More catholic Whining

Back on June 13, 2011, I wrote the blog post More catholic Whining, in which I described the situations happening in some States like New York and Illinois, involving certain catholic charities having issues with their states making it illegal to discriminate against straight couples in common law relationships and to discriminate against gay couples when providing fostering and adoption services. Now I thought this story was…

Theism in a social setting.

Living in the small town area that I reside in and being a part of this still taboo minority can be rough sometimes but have no bearing on my social setting or comfort of the setting.  I have noticed it depends on the people you are around and the atheist vs. theist ratio, you won't hear a lone christian argue with a room full of atheist for very long and (depending on the atheist) vice versa.  But this isn't about argumentative bickering over who has the best idea, or just perhaps it never…

Coming Soon- The American Theocracy

The move toward American Theocracy by the empowered evangelical 'elite' in the US has made it almost impossible for an atheist or difficult for a non-christian to be elected to office.  Schools are having their curriculum undermined by creationist who wish to revise history, remove evolution from science, and prevent teaching sexual health and pregnancy prevention.  Atheist fear reprisals for not being christian and are often discriminated against at work, socially, and most especially in…

It's all a matter of time...

Dear Members,

As a new member I want to start a discussion about my field of interest

and I want to give you all some background info of the work I do and

it's ethics and morals I have to deal with as an atheist working with

Christian social workers and Christian institutions.

As you can see in my profile, I am a social worker. I work with mental

deceased cooping with a drug addiction. A.k.a clients

with double-diagnoses. In my field of work I… Continue

It’s time for a good old fashioned rant: Utopianist Idiots

A utopia is a perfect (or close too it) society free from the problems that plague real societies. You can find utopianists throughout the spectrum's but mostly on the edges. Authoritarians are utopianits as well are anarchists, there are atheistic utopianists who thing if we get rid of religion the world will be at peace and there are theocratic utopianists who believe if everyone and every government followed their religion the world would be a peace and there are…

Should ministers have to pay taxes?

Churches in the US are given a lot of benefits by the government, including tax exemptions on property tax, donations, social security taxes, and sales tax.

But did you know that preachers also personally receive hefty tax breaks from the… Continue

How to Make Some Money From Your Atheist Blog

Blogs come and go, and atheist blogs are no different. However, there is one aspect of blogging on atheism, agnosticism and the whole family of faithlessness that has been bothering me for some time: how to make some money doing it? Now, anybody who has tried inserting some Google Adsense advertising on their blog or website immediately comes up against a problem – there are few if any relevant adverts. Perhaps worse than that, a lot of the advertising space has been bought by religious… Continue

Evolution is Not the Same as Social Darwinism - another in my educational series on evolution

This article is another in my series of articles about what evolution isn't. My aim is to get people talking about evolution and to see how bloody ignorant it is to be anti-evolution.

There seems to be some confusion, especially in the conservative Christian community, between the Theory of Evolution and Social Darwinism.

"Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" which came out in 2008 was a film created to arouse anti-science and anti-evolution sentiments among viewers. To that… Continue

Atheist Showdown? - Think Atheist vs Atheist Nexus

Twitter is fast becoming my early warning system when it comes to finding out about the things that I am interested in.

That’s how I found out about Think Atheist, the second Atheist networking site that I am aware of. Taking a quick look at the site it does look like an Atheist Nexus clone( in the sense that it seems to be built using the same software and has the same features).

It is sitting at around 300 members but, I have to ask why they bothered if it’s essentially… Continue

I haven't blogged much recently

I have been meaning to blog more recently, but I just don't seem to find all that much time to do it.

Here are a couple of things that I've been meaning to blog about:

1. The forthcoming atheist bus advertisements in London. Due January 2009.

And there's more… Continue
