So, today I was talking to some of my christian friends and religion came up. One of my friends didn't know for sure my position about it and when it became clear that I'm an atheist, she said she was sad for me, and it made me think of my time as a believer, especially when she asked me why I didn't believe, she said "Min, it is so easy, you just gotta believe"... But really, when I was a believer it wasn't "just believing", no. I felt guilty about things that I know now are perfectly… Continue

Had a hugely successful event at Reed college tonight. Leslie of the Reed Student Secular Humanists and Kurt of CFI Portland did an incredible job of publicizing the event and 160 people showed up. I was surprised at the number of recovering Catholics and Jews in the audience - or at least the number who spoke about it or mentioned it. It looks like we will get an RR group going in Portand soon. 7 people stayed after the talk to discuss how to get a group started.

Big development today. Recovering from Religion is getting a feature article in the "faith" section of the Kansas City Star on Saturday June 13! This will be the first print media attention we have received for RR.
Take a look at the RR website
We are working hard to find people across the nation who will facilitate RR groups. We now have 11 groups in 10 different cities after only two months. If you know of someone who might be… Continue

I was just interviewed by David Driscoll of Secular Nation Podcast. The interview went great and he gave me a lot of time to talk about Recovering from Religion as well. Take a listen at this link
David really did his homework and had excellent questions for our discussion.
Please let others know about the podcast as well.

Next week we are making a big announcement about the new Recovering from Religion initiative. I think it is time we non-theists stepped out and helped those who are not totally infected with religion, find their way out. Help… Continue

We have two and maybe three groups forming for recovering from religion. We would like to spread the word and get at least a dozen groups going over the next month or so. If you are interested in facilitating a group in your area, take a look at the website, guidelines and other resources and let me know. I will help you get started. www.recoveringreligionists.com

I just announced today the Recovering from Religion initiative. See the video announcement on my channel on youtube (damon132) and this website
. I had hardly posted the video and I had several people commenting and contacting me. That is so encouraging. What is needed are some people across the country (or world) to become facilitators of a group in your area. Here is the meetup page we… Continue

In the next few days I will be sending out a press release for a new group I wish to develop. It has occurred to me that there are many people out there who would not call themselves Atheists or even Agnostics, yet they have a real sense of how religion has infected them and hurt them in many ways. The name of the group will be Recovering Religionists, and will have principles similar to the old AA twelve steps without any god references. My vision is to create meetups that will be directed by… Continue

As I travel making presentations on my book, inevitably several people want their copy autographed and want to tell me the story of how they escaped religion. The stories are at once fascinating and heart rending. It has been a joke for decades among former Catholics that they are recovering Catholics. It generally meant that they were actively trying to get over the programming and brainwashing in guilt and sexual repression taught in Catholic schools and churches. I would suggest a slightly… Continue
