When Secular Children Fly Solo At Church

This weekend was a personal test for my parenting. As an atheist parent, I am pretty adamant in presenting both sides of an argument and using context when discussing religious belief with my kids. The only confirmation of how fair of a job I am doing is when the kids end up in awkward…

Religion as 'emulation of the adult by the child'

I simply wish to promote some of what I consider the best quotes about religion by the sci-fi writer Frank Herbert. In my opinion he is an very insightful and serious critic of religion, having explored it himself very thoroughly

Religion is the emulation of the adult by the child. Religion is the encystment of past beliefs: mythology, which is guesswork, the assumptions of trust in the universe, those pronouncements which men…

Free Will?

Many of the basic principles that guide human behavior rest on the idea of free will, like the concept of individual responsibility and choices.

Free will is an important concept that affects a variety of serious thought. Legally it is assumed criminals have a choice in committing a crime, but science shows…

hey, cowboy, let me see your face

hey, cowboy, let me see your face

the scar where pain still lingers from

the teeth gone bad and yellowed like old paper

from the chew you cannot swallow

the whiskers like a patch of stiff,…

If I Were A Christian...

If I were a christian I could pick whatever kind of beliefs I wanted and then choose a church and jump in.  I'd have plenty to do.  There'd be friends to spend time with.

If I were a christian I could be eccentric or different and still find a niche where I belong.

If i were a christian our house would often be filled with guests, people showing up just to talk, people hanging around when there's trouble, people to listen when I need someone to talk to.

If I were a…

You Do the Math

With the rise of Evangelical Christianity in the United States a corresponding increase in finger pointing and blame claiming that the country is in moral decline accompanied it. The usual culprits for the fingered for the alleged deterioration are liberals, non-Christians and unbelievers, but a look at the numbers show the source may be a closer to home.

Without a doubt Christianity is the dominant religion in the United States comprising 75 percent of the population. Christian… Continue

Centrist Perspective: Ideals and Merit

The 10th anniversary of 9/11 has come and gone. Leftist liberals everywhere all seemed determined to make the worst possible interpretations of the U.S. response since that historic day. It was a pathetic display. It's rhetoric like that which has led to my becoming an Independent. I no longer identify with Democrats. I feel pushed to the center and now see myself as a moderate centrist. I'm simply appalled at the extremes of the left, just as I am at the extremes of the right.

When…

Perspective on Heaven and Hell

“I don't believe in an afterlife, so I don't have to spend my whole life fearing hell, or fearing heaven even more. For whatever the tortures of hell, I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse.” ~Issac Asimov
The prospect of death doesn't worry me. But the prospect of physical suffering and pain certainly does. When I die, I just hope it's as painless as possible. The brevity of life doesn't bother me either. It's nature's way of telling me to enjoy myself or… Continue

I'm taking my stand against the christians and to lead by example of spreading our words of reason and reality.

Christians in general are some of the most scariest people of all the religions on this planet. They force there beliefs on you and if you don't believe them they will beat you, yell at you, and tell you lies to try to scare you into believing what they want you too. Only people who have the brain to think for themselves and make there own opinions are the strong ones because we can think for ourselves. In the words of Corey Taylor "Angels lie to keep control" If you look at most of…

Hellfire and Buggery Part II: Crazy goes to Crazytown!!

Immediately following on from my last blog, about how I'd posted a video on Facebook about Homosexuality and Christianity, received one angry message from a Christian who promptly de-friended me (how shall I ever live with myself ? ? ? ) - someone began commenting on the video.

Turns out - as you'll see - he's something of a spiritual, new age kind with a penchant for CRAZY and lists, LOTS of lists… Continue

Is God Necessary?

The question as to whether or not GOD exists is a question which has many different answers. If perception truly is reality. That is the way in which one perceives the world is the vantage point from which one will see the world. So if you are a Christian for however long during that time you will see the world as a Christian. Or Atheist, whatever have you.

But, if perception truly is reality if everyone was born with no concept of a "GOD", "heavens" ,"hell" no concept of the… Continue

More than we can handle

Here's something that's annoyed me for a while. It came up again in a couple of places in quick succession lately - once in an episode of Bones, I forget the other - so I thought it was about time to try explaining what exactly it is that pisses me off so much.

It's about the assertion that life, or fate, or God, or whatever, "never gives us more than we can handle".

I think it's a phrase that's supposed to be comforting to someone going through hard times, to reassure… Continue

Waking up in an alternate reality

The realization that most of the people that populate this planet have an invisible friend can be very scary when you truly understand the full scope of it. It's effectively the same as waking up to find yourself still dreaming or maybe the word nightmare is more accurate. Either way this viral delusion can and does effect anyone. Conservatives, liberals, professionals, imbeciles, the poor, rich, sick, well, sane or insane all line up to testify about the warm, fuzzy feeling they get when they… Continue
