Mondo Diablo Episode 354: Strangers With Florrie

Florrie Fisher shared her life as a "boozer, user, and a loser," with rather sophisticated New York high school students, about 30 years before Amy Sedaris (sort of) portrayed her on the Comedy Central show, Strangers with Candy.

'till Death do us Part

Christianity has an awesome propaganda machine that regularly pumps out information, misinformation and down right lies, which the media regularly promotes as gospel rather than investing a little critical thought and just a smidgeon of skepticism (default mode for real journalists).

A good example of poor journalism, sloppy work and plain laziness comes in a story picked up by the national media from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. As a research organization, Pew's… Continue

Ignorance Knows No Limits

Despite being 11 years into the 21st century, in the United States the train of ignorance rolls on and shows no signs of slowing down. Before, I start in on this rant (yes, it is a rant) I must admit that I am highly disgusted by the colossal amount of misinformation the black church passes along. I am incensed by the ignorance it encourages and more importantly, I am frightened by the amount of, what else can I call it, bullshit the community actually…

Mondo Diablo Episode 236: Never Trust a German!

The clips this week comes from an old propaganda/brainwashing American men film, "Your job in Germany." Isn't it horrible how a country believes its so superior that it has the right to invade other countries so it can be the world's superpower? And the use of propaganda! Tsk! I guess the picture is right. They are born and bred with this belief of superiority. (snark)

Oops, wrong brain

This is a very interesting article, and well worth the long read. While this does not address atheism or theism in particular, I think understanding this information can be useful in many different situations.

Oops, wrong brain

What on earth are we thinking when we go into shops and buy lots of pointless stuff we just don’t need? John Naish says it’s not so much what’s on our minds, but which brain we use when we spend.

The past 20 years have given… Continue

Shakespeare Had Roses All Wrong

This is a story about language that was on NPR this morning. If you've by chance read my bio, you'll know that one of my interests is language. This story is about how our cultural use of language conditions how we perceive or define the world/issues/people. This is really quite interesting. You can listen to it here. Be sure to read the introduction below, which is… Continue

The Truth About Atheism

Been a couple of posts (again) yesterday about the vile propaganda and raw hatred that gets directed our way from theists that are immune to any kind of basic logic or argument a 5-year old can understand. It does nothing other than encourage renewed, freshly envigorated assaults. I summised the mentality as follows here -

"Smear, ridicule, noise, distraction, slander and outright falsehoods.… Continue

Vatican Accuses Scientists of not having enough faith or reason!

In the recent edition of the Osservatore Romano (16-17 Feb 2009) there is a very short piece entitled "In the footsteps of Galileo science must value faith and reason." The message is spelled out in the first sentence, stating that scientists are called upon by the Vatican to not renounce "neither reason nor faith". To suggest that scientists do not value reason is an insult of the highest order. But the abuse of language which is one of the hallmarks of Vatican propaganda needs not only to be… Continue

The Twilight Zone's version of the atheist takedown.

Happy New Year! As you may know, the Sc-Fi channel runs a Twilight Zone marathon on New Years's Eve and New Year's Day. It's fun to see all the old filmmaking techniques, the occasional bad acting, the weirdness of the stories and how freaky that narrator is (Futurama does a perfect parody called "The Scary Door".) But it's also fun to see American culture and weird beliefs in this era.

One episode called "The Obsolete Man" had this weird "git them godliss commies!" feel to it. A… Continue
