Symbolism and Propaganda

This may seem like a bit of a 'reach' for you kind reader, but I just had a thought I will probably play around with for a while.

While we know that Constantine's Chi Rho Christian symbol was this:

The earliest cross symbol was a pagan one like this:…

What does it mean to be an Atheist Pagan?

Hey all!

It's been a battle, having this as an identity. People think its a contradiction of terms. Atheist and Pagan, like the two can't coincide, like they are .... mutually  exclusive or something. Well, I'm here to say they are not. Cause first off, no one said that being a pagan required you be a polytheistic believer or a wiccan dual theistic believer. There is no template, there is no dogma, there is no book except what you claim as your own. For me, being a pagan is…

Mondo Diablo Episode 334: A Christmas History Timeline

This week I read a list of solstice and Christmas events in history, starting with the Newgrange around 2500 BCE: this is apparently not that far from Noah's Flood, which was in 2304 BC, according to Ken Ham. Considering Stonehenge was supposed to have started around 2800 BCE and added to for another thousand years is quite curious indeed. Seems that Noah's immediate family must have made their…

Mondo Diablo Episode 333: The Large Population of Christmas

This week Alison lectures some more on the origins of Santa. Who knew Santa was a Yeti? Looks like "Bob" really is Santa Claus' son.

Mondo Diablo Episode 331: Santa is a Wildman

Welcome to an all-new Secular Solstice Season 2011! This year has come to a great start, since I did not have to work on Black Friday! How much better could it be? The clips for this show come from an old article in LA weekly by Jeffrey Vallance. It's lauded by cryptozoologists for some reason, but I think it's a great article for fans of the pagan origins of Christmas. You can read the article here:…

Running into a cathedral with a stick of dynamite

I’ve always been one to let curiosity get the best of me. On the playground as a child, I refused to use the space as it was intended the way other children did. I played on the roof, I played on the outside of the walls, I climbed up the support beams. I wasn’t inclined to be restricted by the ‘right’ way to interact with the space set out for me. This trend of individualism marked many important decisions in my life, from being an exchange student…

Mondo Diablo Episode 284: Vomit Collector's Christmas

Welcome to your Atheist Christmas Podcast for the Year of Our Overlords, 2010. This year, I'm looking back at Christmas past. "Your past" you ask? No, long past. Looooong past. Go back, back, back before that cloudy April when some guy who may have been named Jesus but decidedly didn't perform any miracles and wasn't born of a virgin and may or may not have been a prophet or a rabbi, and may or may not… Continue

Pagan Mythology in the Jesus Story

Here is one example of pagan myth and Babylonian star lore in the New Testament from my book. This excerpt describes the action in Mark chapter 5:

“As Jesus continued his trip in this quadrant of the zodiac, he drove a herd of demon possessed swine into the sea. Jesus and his apostles crossed the sea from Pisces and headed for Gadara (or Gerasa,) deep in the lower left quadrant of the sky chart. They found a man possessed with demons in a graveyard. Jesus casts his legion… Continue

Gingrich Imagines Pagans

Looks like the religious right is making a last ditch attempt to regroup, this time with newly converted catholic, permanent assface Newt Gingrich equating anything that isn't christian with paganism

Welcome to the light

Welcome to the light. This was a comment on my previous blog post (thanks, Felch). Reading this, I thought I'd share my coming out story.

A year ago I was a religious nut. Not totally insane/loopy... simply Pagan. I knew evolution was real, I knew magick didn't work unless you used it to change yourself, I loved science, I loved questioning how things worked. I was down to earth, I believed in following a mundane path if it existed and only turned to magickal means or divine… Continue

Looking For The Facts

I'm on a Quest of biblical proportions! (pun intended)

I've spent the last two days scouring the web for cold hard facts about the origins of christianity and how it basically stole most of its symbolism and myths from previous pagan religions.

I've found several sources but they are either biased and laden with agenda, or simply not cited. And while they basically agree, that doesn't make it fact.

There must be some resources out there that are… Continue
