South Korean Enemy #1: Lady Gaga

Nevermind crazy pseudo-theocratic North Korean regimes that wish to invade them using incursion tunnels. Nevermind that this extremely isolationist rogue state has nukes and rocketry advanced enough to deliver certain nuclear incineration death anywhere in their country.

This week's news in skepticism:

Hey Ayatollah, Leave Those Kids Alone!

To avoid feeling powerless about all the crap going on in the world, I sometimes turn a blind eye to the 'news' of dreadful events. I feel some shame in that, but I have enough problems dealing with my little life, and I do what I can to promote atheism, free-thinking, reason, science, critical thought, wonder, etc.

So, I don't know all the details about what's going on in Iran, except I know it's bad bad shit and I wish it would stop, but I don't know what I can do to… Continue

Something random I noticed today

So I was watching the news this morning and I saw a story about 3 boys in their early teens that recently found a dead body. They were being interviewed on the news, they stated they didn't think it was "real" but then they soon realized it was and ran for help. The boys seemed to know exactly what the situation was and I feel that they dealt with it in an entirely appropriate manner, they didn't stick around to poke the body, to try and get a close look, they notified police immediately. Their… Continue

Palin's Farewell Speech: My Father Smelled of Eldeberries

Sarah Palin's leaving Alaska for a "higher calling". Here for your snarking pleasure, I give you her farewell speech - with commentary.

What an absolutely beautiful day it is, and it is my honor to speak to all Alaskans, to our Alaskan family this last time as your governor.
The honor part was cool, but actually being your Governor? That part sucked.
And it is always great to be in Fairbanks.
Check. Fairbanks = always… Continue

Forbes magazine, creationists and the good of the stakeholders

Having written for a business magazine, I'm baffled about Forbes publishing a trio of anti-Darwin rants on a seemingly random whim. And I have a few thoughts on the subject, most of them very negative. Forbes might be undermining its reputation and hurting the interests of its stakeholders by allowing ID friendly editors to use their media soapbox as a bully pulpit.

( my write-up on… Continue

Get thee to The Atheist Spot

I'm sure most of you are internet savvy enough to know about places like Digg and Reddit. Well, I was unaware until recently that there is a place called "The Atheist Spot" which is a community news generated community for stories of particular interest to atheists.

Not sure how many of you were already aware of this, and if this is OFN, but I just thought I'd try to popularize it a little more. So far… Continue

Finally, Justice for the Religiously abused.

Today, in the liberally minded England, a Manchester Crown Court jury found a Muslim man guilty of child abuse. Not that unusual....except that the abuse was a religious rite!

I don't think that anyone needs comment that this is real justice, and a real precedent establishing some of the criminal acts that religions have been able to get away with.

Thumbs up to that jury, even though I am sure that at least half of them were just Muslim hating Christians...at least they… Continue

If there is no god…ohnoes!

Fundamentalists news websites, how I love thee, especially WorldNutDaily. WND never ceases to provide amusement in the form of fundie logic and wacky advertisements. Claiming itself as a ‘news source’ this beyond right-wing rag makes Fox news look like the Disney Channel. I used to get pissed at the B.S. they sling but I’ve come to embrace it for what it really is; satirical humor. Some people can take this stuff with a grain of salt and some can’t, so steer clear if you’re easily aggravated by… Continue
