On Fake Friends and Groupthink

“Never speak ill of yourself; your friends will always say enough on that subject.”

Talleyrand

“It takes your enemy and your friend, working together, to hurt you to the heart; the one to slander you and the other to get the news to you.”

Mark Twain

On June 28, my second wife and I would have celebrated our 31st anniversary.  I meant to write about it on the 28th, but hey, three years after the divorce, a guy’s allowed to…

People.....You Are Killing Your Children

I have heard it said that the Human Race is living at the bottom of an ocean of germs,

bacteria and virus's. The only thing that has allowed us to survive to today is because

our ancient ancestors had evolved an immune system that has the ability to fight off the

majority of these diseases.

But, if the Human Race does not allow the immune system to do its job, we will slowly

lose it and become dependant upon medicine. That is not good.

To retain a good…

Intervention! Scientologist Rehab Centre Shut Down in Trois-Rivières

There's more fantastic non-crazy news here in Quebec when it comes to secularism to brighten your Monday.  The head of the regional health agency forced Narconon, a …

Mondo Diablo Episode 321: Ask Your Doctor if Mondo Diablo is Right for You!

I'm on drugs--REAL drugs. And seeing as it's October, but only the first, I thought I'd make an almost Halloweeny post. Prescription drugs are scary, man.

Maher's medical confusion understandable

There's been a lot of discussion about Maher's winning the award, and this almost immediate vaccine comment which caused many atheists to cringe. I wrote a little about why I think he deserves the award anyway on my blog.

In addition to that, I'd like to add,… Continue

Simon Singh is charming! Er, appealing!

Apparently I went to bed just too early last night to see the Twitterscape and blogosphere explode with the news: Simon Singh is indeed going to be appealing against the ruling in the preliminary hearing, in his legal case in which he is charged with libel by the British Chiropractic Association.

Yay!

His book Trick or Treatment, co-authored with Edzard Ernst, is currently in the process of knocking my socks off (quite inconvenient and uncomfortable, actually, especially… Continue

Acupuncture works!

...just as well as not doing acupuncture! Now that's what I call a medical procedure worth investing large sums of money in and foregoing other clinically proven treatments for. You don't even need to actually do it for it to magically heal you! Hey, I wonder if we can make that work with… Continue

Bogus! Heinous! Station!

This was also posted on my atheist blog, Cubik's Rube.

Bah.

The preliminary hearings in the legal case brought against Simon Singh, by the British Chiropractic Association, took place today, and things did not go Simon's way. I don't know much about the details of what happened, or what any of it means legally - I… Continue

Don't panic! No fire!

This was also posted on my atheist blog, Cubik's Rube.

This is a great article, which further serves to intimidate me regarding the task of coming up with my own article to summarise my thoughts on the recent anti-vaccination nonsense. It makes the case strongly and succinctly that the people continuing to push a link between vaccines and autism are… Continue

Pseudoscience

This is an extract from my latest blog post, titled "Pseudoscience".

So, I guess I should've done this one sooner. Pseudoscience is pretty much the pinnacle of anathema to everything I'm struggling for on this blog (hey, writing dozens of words about stuff as often as five or six times a month is a real struggle sometimes). I'm all about… Continue

Sour Sweets

The other day an acquaintance asked for my opinion on an article about mercury contamination in high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Here’s my response—corrections welcome:
My first smart-ass response is “good thing I only drink cane sugar or diet sodas.” ;) My initial, unreasoned, reactionary response to the article itself is… Continue
