Don't Talk to Christians

Having a conversation, either on line or face to face, with a Christian is something all of us have endured. Just out of curiosity, can anybody point to an incident where they accomplished anything by doing so? I know I can’t, but maybe some of you have a higher tolerance for fools than me.

So why talk to them? Perhaps you are afraid that by not responding you concede the argument and they win by default. This appears to have merit until you examine the idea closer. The premise is you…

Went to see "The Invention of Lying"

I've been looking forward to seeing "The Invention of Lying" and finally got a chance last nite. I enjoyed it very much. Kept me chuckling all thru the movie. I took a religious person with me to see it and I was surprised that she enjoyed it as much as she… Continue

Morality Is For The Faithful... Not!

I had a conversation with my mother recently. She told me a story that she had heard through a friend about some distant or not so distant family member. Unfortunately I cannot remember all of the specifics of the story, so bear with me. I also have no means of verifying its accuracy, so I use it as a way to discuss a point, not necessarily as a historical account.

The story took place in a Nazi occupied country during the Holocaust. A Christian family was hiding a Jewish family in… Continue

ANOTHER SINNING PASTOR

When a Christian decided to go soul fishing on the Unreasonable Faith site recently, his ignorance of the reality of non-belief and non-believers tripped him up.

Most Religionists are incredibly ignorant of what it means to be a non-believer. Fundamentalists of any brand are among the most naive in this respect. The gross inadequacy of their primary assumptions about the causes and characteristics of atheism is one of the reasons why attempts to reconvert the disillusioned faithful… Continue

My rules, reposted

I'm fairly well inebriated (2/3 bottle of wine), or I would never say some of this. Enjoy. Please comment. Not really a common thing for me to be drinking to excess, but more common recently. An excess of anger/frustration that needs to be muted, perhaps.

Ahem, edited. More humorous, less cynical and snotty.

Rule #1

There are no rules. Officially.

#2

Um, and don't fucking tell anyone you have rules. Not that you would. It's just a bad idea. It… Continue

Um... Don't you guys have a rule about not lying?

Today I saw some lawn signs down at the local megachurch that said "Proposition 8 = Free Speech". As you should know if you're a Californian, Prop 8 seeks to make same-sex marriage illegal in California.

I'm absolutely enraged. How the fuck do these people say that they follow a religion whose 9th commandment is to not lie (or bear false witness against one's neighbor) and get away with proudly posting such blatant lies in public? It's absurd. It's obscene. Proposition 8 has… Continue
