No Pontius Pilate's Here
In the story of Jesus' crucifixion, Pontius Pilate acted as judge in the trial. Pilate actually lobbied the crowd to spare Jesus' life, but the crowd would not relent. Seeing that the crowd would have its way, Pilate made a great show of washing his… Continue

Clinicians are vulnerable too...
Beware of tendecy to see relationships that you expect to see or that are supported by striking examples readily available in your memory. Rely on your notes more than your memory. Recognize that hindsight is seductive: It can lead you to feel overconfident and sometimes to judge yourself too harshly for not having foreseen…

What do you blog about when you don’t feel like blogging and don’t have anything to say? The Bible! Nothing like a bit of Bible study to get you going right? Right.
I thought that today, I’d go back to the beginning. You know, this bit:
1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
I think even some Christians might recognize that line. It’s the first line of the Bible (the King James version anyway…). And I know… Continue

Christianity has an awesome propaganda machine that regularly pumps out information, misinformation and down right lies, which the media regularly promotes as gospel rather than investing a little critical thought and just a smidgeon of skepticism (default mode for real journalists).
A good example of poor journalism, sloppy work and plain laziness comes in a story picked up by the national media from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. As a research organization, Pew's… Continue

CSPAN today was so ironic; debating of Social Security bled into the conversation of 'roll of religion (none) in government'
Wow, what a scam x 1000000000000000.... I dig the rivals that called; and his homies that sounded so lame and played out on the phone calls...

I asked my family this weekend why they as Christians feel it is OK to lie to their children about Santa Clause. I explained that, to me, it seemed quite hypocritical that one of the Christian tenants is not to lie, but yet in celebration of the very beginning of Christianity Christians lie to their children about this man who brings toys. The answer I got was because it brings so much joy to the children. So, is it one of those "ends justifies the means" types of… Continue

i was just watching this video on youtube, "the hidden jesus" where a christian theologian explores other religions with stories similar to the jesus story.
what got my attention was in part six where he makes the claim that "for the last 2000 years christianity and judaism have been at war over jesus. why? because of what some consider christianity's biggest lie."…

Proper Church Adventures will resume next week.
A few months ago I watched a video of Eddie Izzard with Bill Maher on Politically Incorrect in 1998 around the time the Monica Lewinsky thing came around that I didn't care about, still don't care about, and had I been the age I am now back then probably wouldn't have cared about… Continue

Today I saw some lawn signs down at the local megachurch that said "Proposition 8 = Free Speech". As you should know if you're a Californian, Prop 8 seeks to make same-sex marriage illegal in California.
I'm absolutely enraged. How the fuck do these people say that they follow a religion whose 9th commandment is to not lie (or bear false witness against one's neighbor) and get away with proudly posting such blatant lies in public? It's absurd. It's obscene. Proposition 8 has… Continue
