Where Am I Again?

A lot of politicians and congressional members have been making the headlines in some of the worst ways lately. Headline making behavior like writing treasonous sounding letters of hate and rebellion against diplomatic talks directly to Iranian leadership. Making the phrase "climate change" an…

Silence

From the moment of my birth, silence has been my enemy. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins all remained silent about the violence in our family. No one spoke the truth, and if they did, they were told by other family members to not speak about it out loud, to remain silent, to act as if nothing terrible was happening.

My family has been my greatest enemy in matters of what was actually happening. To speak out loud, telling my truth meant shunning, scolding, chattering…

Neosocialism - My New Philosophy.

I have started a blog on Wordpress where I can start working on and promoting Neosocialism. The goal of Neosocialism is to develop a philosophy which combines atheism, socialism, information freedom with scientific and technological progress. The goal is to develop and implement a new vision for the future of humanity in space.

The current economic, social and government systems are inappropriate for a life in space and for the future. If we all them to proceed then humanity is doomed…

Your Karma Ran Over My Dogma

An interesting thing occurred after I returned to the Land of the Rising Sun. I had been in Tokyo a couple of days, and jet lag had seemed not to be too much of an issue, thanks to napping at the appropriate times. However, after running about Harajuku with a friend of mine and visiting Oedo Onsen afterwards, I was a content and drowsy foreigner. We each paid the fee for all the wonderfulness that was the Old-fashioned Edo village inside the bathhouse, on the way out. We tossed on our shoes and… Continue

We are Gods

When many people hear about things like genetic modification, geoengineering, etc, many scream “Your playing god!” Well in a sense we are gods. Look at us, look at what we have done, look at what we can do. We can communicate with people on the other side of the world with small devices we hold to our heads, we can heat food by putting in in a metal box, we can cure diseases that have plagued humanity for thousands of years, we can build buildings hundreds of stories tall, we can fly faster…

Since When Did We Require Faith To Wish Well Upon Others?

In light of Chris Hitchens' bout with oesophageal cancer a proclaimed Christian fundamentalist took it upon himself to write a rather touching blog post in which he claims to pray for Hitchens' recovery. First of all, I believe that it should have remained a private matter as it was obviously politically motivated, but that's beside the point. At one point in his post he stated: "I know the irony is not lost on [Hitchens] that the same faith he so

ruthlessly savaged is the same faith that… Continue

Embarrassed to be human

This blog post appeared previously on my site.
(This was written on Saturday)

The emotions I am feeling right now are indescribable by mere words alone. Those emotions did not come lightly.

Today, I thought about the human race, our place in the Universe. Our history, our future. And I kept thinking, that something is wrong. Something is very, very wrong.

As long as our species has existed, we… Continue

The Little Book of Humanity is here

I have namely recently started a brand new blog, called The Little Book of Humanity and it is at http://thelittlebook.blogs.fi/

The very modest intention of The Little Book of Humanity is to gather into one blog the very best ideas of secular, humanist and atheist thinkers, writers, poets, philosophers and scientists of the past. The goal is to form a little guidebook on how to… Continue
