Reason Day

“Civilization will not attain to its perfection, until the last stone from the last church falls on the last priest.”

Emile Zola

On the summer solstice, there is more light than on any other day of the year.  Light is a metaphor for knowledge, so let us set aside at least one day a year to intentionally do one thing to advance the light of reason.  Read a book, join a secular group, write a letter to the editor, give a talk, have a thoughtful discussion,…

A KINKY PARAMIOGRAPHY ON A SMELLY THEME

When we study science, in particular evolutionary biology, it becomes pretty evident that humans were the result of purposeless and random forces of nature.  We are not what natural selection had in mind because there is no mind.

So instead of attributing our existence to some patriarchal god, let’s take it for what it is: It just is.  Like the old song says, “Let’s live and laugh at it all.”

You can lead a hog to a pigsty but you can’t make him stink.  (From the…

Dr. DeGrasse-Tyson, I presume.

If you read my blog, you know that I have been struggling with a label.  Am I Humanist?

I've been reading and watching and thinking and musing and whatnot and, sure, I agree with so much of the tenets of those who call themselves Humanist or Secular Humanist.  So what.  I realize it's not that big of a deal.

The other day I was listening to a podcast that had a wonderful interview with Neil DeGrasse-Tyson talking about this EXACT THING.

Like, isn't it amazing… Continue

Good for the Gander

For the longest, Christians felts free to say the most horrible things about atheists, agnostics an other nonbelievers, but books by prominent atheist writers such as Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Chris Hedges caught religionist off guard and became international best-sellers.  It seems many Christians have thin skin when it comes to taking the criticism about their religion despite their expertise denigrating others.

Christian religionist regularly disparaged atheists and… Continue

Excerpt: Atheist Pocket Debater
The Atheist Power Statement

Introduction (with assorted musings)

*A repost from my other blog. Nobody ever visits it lol.*

My name is unimportant, but I would like to give some background information about myself so as to allow a more intimate transfer of information.

I was born in summer of 1986 to my father, Bob, and mother, Jennifer (not real names). Needless to say, they were overjoyed with the newest and first addition to their family. Let's just go with the name Raphael, which was bestowed upon their screaming and slimy… Continue
