Is God Just Pretend?

I know everyone here knows the answer is yes, but I am writing this for the ones that have not figured that out yet.

God's plan, preventable deaths, and other musings

My parents are pretty confusing when it comes to their religious beliefs. Neither of them are hardcore or anything, and I think they simply believe because they never really (seriously) considered anything else. My mom usually speaks about God (when she does) in a general way, while I think my dad would be a tiny bit more "Christian-y" about it. My father can easily poke fun at Christianity and bring up silly questions (such as whether or not Jesus knew about pizza at the time he was alive,…

Who Shall Protect Our Gods?

Disclaimer: This is my first blog a so I begin by apologizing for all the rules of blogging that I will break.  Actually I'm not going to apologize for breaking the rules (for if they were important they would have been written down in a place where I would have read them . I am going to apologize for offending you. Hmmm...perhaps not; for insult is taken. never given and I…

When the philosophy undergraduates discover god...

This is my very first post on here so be very, very kind.  Maybe even sycophantic if you have it in you… ;-)

I've decided to post this in order to avoid having a drawn out and painful discussion with the original author of a Christian apology which, like arguing with a drunk teenager, is largely pointless and always entirely depressing.

The post in question was from someone called Templestream, a guy who was trolling on Atheist Revolution.  His theory was the typical drivel and…

My Atheism Doesn’t Need Evolution

Atheists are often portrayed as die hard believers in evolution, and atheism is quite often portrayed as being dependent upon believing in the validity of evolution. But you know what? Some people, such as myself, did not need to rely on Darwin to steer our courses off the path of religion and onto the path of reason.

Consider:

The bible was not created by a god nor inspired by the word of any god. It was written by a number of people who tried…

Taking the Plunge

Once you've accepted Jesus into your heart, your next step is showing your obedience and symbolizing your rebirth through baptism.  The Christian denominations in which I grew up believed that baptism was only valid as a personal decision.  Some denominations practice infant baptism or sprinkling, but in the context of what I was taught that practice seems to have no significance whatsoever (except to…

Repeat After Me

Getting saved through Jesus Christ and receiving the Holy Spirit sounds like it would be a really big deal.  I mean, the sheer mechanics of opening up one's heart and having the Holy Spirit move in like a college kid moving into the dorms is difficult to wrap your head around.  Oddly enough, Christians seem to think it requires nothing more than the ability to repeat phrases told to you by another person.  This applies mainly to children who are too young to formulate a sentence based on the…

Born Christian?

I was indoctrinated into Protestant Christianity from birth and accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior at the ripe old age of four.  I don't remember much about my childhood but I still remember that evening and the place of worship in Panama we called "The Home."  It wasn't a formal church and I imagine it was more like what you would have seen in the Apostle Paul's day where believers gathered in homes to praise god together through song and prayer.

The Home was situated either…

The Pledge of Allegiance Old and New

http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2010/06/23/billboard-campaign-refutes-one-nation-under-god/

While I haven’t seen many billboards across Tennessee that are religious in nature that are surprising, this new campaign in North Carolina is a welcome change. I’m actually surprised this didn’t happen sooner, but I hope this will catch on. The gist is putting up an American flag pattern with… Continue

Fullmetal atheist's "imagene no religion..." part one: no holocaust

Before Hitler came to power the Catholic Church spread anti-Jewish remarks. They spread hate agents Jews saying that they killed Jesus. This is not the act of just one crazy pope but a ton of popes over a long period of time. All the religious lies and hate piled up. Then a large depression came to… Continue

Hell is not moral

When a theist starts to babble on about how god is moral there are a lot of ways to shut them up. One of my favorites is to talk about hell. at a first glance hell seems like jail, a place where evil people go. But when you think about it you can make hell seem not moral without even using the bible agents the… Continue

My record as an Atheist Activist (Your opinions sought....)

I have been, in the past, accused of endlessly whining about religion generally and Christianity specifically and not doing more about it. I respond usually that my activism has included going on marches and writing to my MP.

Here is an example of a recent exchange between me and my MP on the reform of the house of lords which proposes an increase in the religious representation and not as I would prefer the removal of this anachronistic oddity and the advance of a secular…

Misunderstandings of Atheists

In my last blog, ‘My Story’ I had mentioned the misconceptions of Atheists and said that this was a topic for another day. Well, today I will talk about this topic, and why it’s important to me to rid society of these stigmas, and why in fact(in my opinion) these misconceptions exist at all.

How do any group of people get misunderstood or labeled as ‘bad’? It can stem from a number of things and really isn’t…

My Story

Hi, I’m Mark, I am 24 years old, I was born an Atheist like everyone else, but early on in childhood I was introduced to Christianity. I was never baptized or ‘saved’ as they so arrogantly state.

As far back as I can remember my Mother always went to church,…
