Thoughts on the Afterlife
As many members of Atheistnexus expressed on these pages, I also was a victim of parochial schools. Not just Catholic school but all the other institutions that teach students how to worship and adore God, some more regimented that others. I learned to “march in step” with all the other kids and kneel, sit, pray, sing, stand, then kneel again according to how many clicks there were or stern whispers from an adjoining pew.
But in high school when I became a little more educated,…

An Anecdote on Deuteronomy
Steph, I was just thinking about that piece. All Barbara did was read the Bible and use a magic marker on all the stupid and/or crazy quotations. It’s beautiful in its simplicity.
Here’s a favorite of mine I was thinking about:
Deut. 25:11,12 - A woman who seizes a man's genitals, even to defend her husband from an attacker, must have her hand cut off.
What weird, sick mentality could come up with a moral directive like the above? Let me…

An Atheist’s View of General Betray-us
When I heard the news that the director of the CIA had an affair with his sycophantic, fawning biographer, I was shocked, dismayed and flabbergasted. Here he paid lip service to Biblical nonsense his whole life and now when he reaches sixty he admits to breaking the seventh commandment —big time.
Deut. 22:22 - Adulterers must be killed

The Auto Da Fe
I was so blown away by this painting I needed to post it on my blog to try to draw attention to it. The painting by Pedro Berruguete (1475) is truly remarkable and important because it’s sheer incontrovertible evidence of how sadistic and criminal the Christian mind is and has been in history.
On…

The Tragic Irony of Human Extinction
When I wrote Mirror Reversal in 2007, Global Warming was still uncertain and actively debated. Now massive destruction and human depopulation is as certain as the sinking of the Titanic once the fifth lower compartment was breached by the razor-sharp spikes of the iceberg. As the head engineer said, “It’s a mathematical certainly.”
My son, Rickie, a long-distance trailer driver recently told me that when he spends a night at a gigantic truck stop in the Texas, there’re…

Religion Is Abomination
Religion Is Abomination
Part I
Preface: I’m not gay, but if I were I’d be pissed at some bronze-age fisherman or goat-herder declaring my genetic sexual proclivities to be “Abomination”—to be loathed or deplored. I have news for you, I’d say, the whole screwy religion has caused more misery and suffering than same-sex lovemaking ever could. At least nobody gets hurt when safely and consensually performed. It’s time we turn the tables…

My Favorite Lines From Mirror Reversal
Lines
His father was a venerable and respected police officer who never took a bribe except when he needed money.
“… mankind can be defined as ‘a peculiar ape infested by meme complexes!’”
‘Fifty dollars for fellatio and a hundred for coitus.’ I gotta write that down so I can use it on the muckety-mucks from Connecticut.”
“What’s a skinny ass like…

Why Religion Is Bad For Humans And Other Living Creatures? Part I
The Bible and Koran encourage and condone the worst aspects of human behavior: war, slavery, necrophilia, cruelty to animals, anthropocentrism, suicide, starvation, racism, xenophobia, blind faith, sexism, homophobia, nepotism, denial of reality, self flagellation, dichotomous thinking, torture, human sacrifice, symbolic cannibalism, and other insults to reason. The result has been to distort and pervert the worldview of all who cherish these religious beliefs and have faith in the dictates…

A letter to New York Magazine
I just watched the interview with General Peter Chiarelli with Candy Crowley on CNN. I hit the ceiling to hear such balderdash. How the heck can the general say it with a straight face on national TV? To the problem of one in ten GIs coming home with missing limbs, or one in four with serious mental post-traumatic stress disorders and an “epidemic suicide rate,” the general conjectured “we need to study the brain!” What do you expect from ten years of atrocity, General? From a full decade of…

8: The Mormon Proposition

From Netflix, I just watched 8: The Mormon Proposition and was outraged at what these pompous fuddy-duddies are getting away with. They are causing needless suffering and even death, all in the name of their whacky religion.

A Question for Christian Apologists
My Brethren without Christ, I have to let you know you're all a bunch of Darwinian primates. (Just hit the link below to get the joke.) I just got back from the September 28, 2010, Dinesh D'Souza/Michael Shermer debate at USF in Tampa. They took questions at the end of the session and I got a chance to ask the following question in front of around a thousand attendees.
The opening…

Man Made God by Barbara G. Walker
I just posted this review of God Made Man by Barbara G. Walker on Amazon Reviews. I'll see her next Thursday and I'm anxious to hear what she thinks. I hope the Amazon editors don't think I came on too strong.
If I would have read this book 50 years ago it would have changed my life. Now that I'm…

I Called It
Last September 14, I posted “Impeach the Pope.” Last year he said he was “deeply ashamed” for the misconduct of American priests for sexual
intrigues with children and other disgraceful behavior.
Now it's hit home. In the diocese (or is it…

A Question For Pro-Lifers
We know fertilization takes place in the Fallopian tube. The zygote, when cleaved becomes a morula, which migrates along the tube to the uterus for implantation. But the majority of fertilized ova don't make it to implantation. According to religious orthodoxy human life has been conceived and a soul is present.
According to…
