Judgment Day

When May 22nd comes around - we need to pretend to all know someone that isn't h ere any longer. Those that were "left behind" will just have to come to grips with the fact the rapture came and went and they weren't on the…

National Day of Prayer spreading like a virus to other countries

Not sure how sharing a candy bar makes you want to have a Prayer Day, but now it's in place in the Federated States of Micronesia, who has had a close tie with the US since World War II, and is very religious, although not as diverse as the US (Roman Catholic 50%, Protestant 47%, other 3%).

"[President] Mori explained he was inspired to create this day for FSM after attending the 2007 Annual National Prayer Breakfast at the White House in…

Support Judge Barbara Crabb

In April of this year, U.S. District Court Judge (Western Wisconsin District) ruled that the National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional, and equated the 1952 and 1988 laws establishing the Day of Prayer as federally mandated calls for religious action. In so deciding, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb wrote that the government can no more enact laws supporting a day of prayer than it can encourage citizens to fast during Ramadan, attend a synagogue or practice magic.…

Mother's day reminisces from a Freethought Mom

Now that my children are ‘emancipated’ - my baby turned 21 this year - I’ve been thinking back over the years, musing about my motherhood experiences.

I started late and had no real mother role model, so I had to learn the ropes as I went along. Luckily my daughter was born an adult, and remained an adult until 14, when she transformed into the evil teen from hell – for exactly 2 yrs – at which

time she returned to her more customary state of perfection. (Well, except… Continue

Atheist Day of Silence

This is not just a thought, it's a rally call. Religions have holy days, days where the members must do, or not do, a thing, or things, to show their allegiance to their cause, which they call faith. Often these are called Faith Days. As atheists we do not have these opportunities to show our equally strong and valid No god viewpoint, or to likewise take time off work for that purpose.

I propose that we, the atheist…

The National Day of FAIL

"It may be that ministers really think that their prayers do good and it may be that frogs imagine that their croaking brings spring." Robert Green Ingersoll, "Which Way?" (1884)"

Yesterday was the National Day of Prayer. Every year, true believers – mostly Evangelical Christians gather to encourage "every individual the need for personal…

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:28pm 2 Comments

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
