Dad is dying.

I've never been affected at all by people around me dying, but I've also never had anyone this close die. So now I'll learn how I deal with death.

All of the relatives are posting messages on Facebook saying "prayers coming in from here" and "more prayers coming from here." I know I shouldn't be insulted by this. He was a Christian and probably would be grateful for these (if he weren't unconscious and all), but it all just seems so silly, like they aren't taking it…

My dad died yesterday.

He collapsed at work. Probably a heart attack of some kind. I'll post again when I have more presence of mind to do so. That's all.

that sucks..

I'm not 100% sure how to start this so I am just going to say that my father died from a motorcycle crash July 29, 1997; two days before my 12th birthday. He was not religious; I suppose I'd describe him as agnostic. He wasn't concerned with the afterlife but moreso with the now; his children in general. He was an absolute great father.

The first thing I want to say is that it irritates me when people say "I'm sorry" because that's not the emotion they feel. They usually have no… Continue

My daddy is gone.

He passed away last night in his sleep.

I'm so overwhelmed.

They moved my dad to a Hospice Friday. I called my sis, Angela. She said that I need to call our brother, because he was willing to buy me and John plane tickets out there so I can see him. The only thing is, John has never met him and they think it would just be an indignity to meet him this way, which I understand.I called a friend of mine who runs a daycare. She kept the boys when they were little. She said she wouldn't even charge me! Although I will give her some money, because they will… Continue

I called my dad.

I called him in his hospital room. He sounded very weak and soft-spoken. We didn't talk long. I think he knew who I was, because he asked me if the boys ate. It was an odd question, but it was coherent. He dropped the phone, and the nurse took it. She told me that he just sleeps a lot anymore. It breaks my heart every time I call. I want my daddy back. Like he was before.

It's Hard to Be an Atheist on Christmas

Atheism and Christmas: Should Atheists Ignore Christmas or Celebrate It?

This was a good read. It's inspired me to write about my own personal experience with this. I've been struggling with this a lot in the past 4-5 years.

My family is religious, but not overly so. Methodism is one of most liberal denominations of… Continue

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:28pm 2 Comments

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

War on Christmas in May

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/21/texas-merry-christmas-bill_n_3312786.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
