Magic and magic, what do they have in common? Perhaps I should clarify. What do prolific supernatural beliefs have in common with conjuring tricks? Continue
In between study, I work as a close-up magician, performing at weddings, coorporate dinners, birthday parties and other such events. My passion for creating illusion has led me to perform for thousands of people, and to spend countless hours in front of the mirror, fiddling with cards, and studying the techniques and psychology of magic.…

Chatting to a believer on facebook:
They had posted a status about their car. Thanks to a canny deal with the insurance this allowed them to pay off a loan outstanding and own their car completely, all the actions of which they attributed to the movement of the divine hand:
"we needed to give God another Acclamation (as He is due every moment of every day) for His next blessing in this saga. After giving us the value of the car in… Continue

Rummaging through my reconstructed disk drive I found a bunch of stuff I thought lost forever. I got it all back and then some. I won't linger. Here's a poem I wrote in 1999. Nuff said.
Reduction in Force

It is a normal practice for a theist to attribute everything to god from creation of the universe to its day to day running and finally destruction. His attitude towards science is that it should prove that there was no such thing as god. That shows a crisis of confidence in the theist mind.
Science believes in inquiry and experimentation in order to validate something.…

Bypassing a bibliography containing numerous books, articles and journals regarding Intelligent Design and Creationism, which do not reach the level of junk science and would need numerous upgrades to reach that plateau, it is important to understand how such thing harms the country. A recent survey of the top developed countries in the world ranked the United States as number 34 out of 35 in the acceptance of evolution, an embarrassment as well as a finding with enormous economic… Continue

OKLAHOMA--It's been a controversial issue for years and now one Oklahoma lawmaker says he plans on introducing a bill next year dealing with teaching evolution in public schools.

Superstition of the creation
According to Quran, Islamists insist that Allah has created 7 skies and 7 earths, and what is in between (the whole universe), According to Quran that Allah has created the first sky as a ceiling of earth, and has created the other planets and stares as decoration or embellishment of earth laid on the that ceiling which is the earth’s sky. In deed a very beautiful fancy, fiction, imagination, and optimism by Quran. All those things have been don for… Continue

I'm not usually for theist bashing but I can't help but secretly think that those who believe in god are stupid.
Christian friend (CF): How do you know god isn't real?
Me: A lack of supporting evidence.
CF: I have supporting evidence!
Me: Do tell?
It is all I can do when someone provides such a crap argument not to ... I don't know .... Shake them really hard? I don't want to hurt or brainwash anyone but… Continue

One thing that I continually come across is the stigma that if you accept the Theory of Evolution as fact, that you MUST be an Atheist. To be blunt, it pisses me off that this persists - Not only do they think they are synonymous, but they associate it with evil. I've come across Atheists who do not fully accept Evolution as the correct theory to describe the diversity of life. Conversely, I know MANY religious folk (including my Catholic girlfriend and her family) who do accept… Continue

...and believed every word of it!
If there were inconsistencies within or without, I credited that to our finite understanding of the infinite. We would understand it "by and by." But where the Bible spoke as literal truth to the very tangible world we can see, hear, touch, taste and smell, where it spoke to our finite understanding in finite terms, I fully expected things to line up...within AND without: The creation, the flood, the geneologies, the history of nations,… Continue

because before there was light
there was no darkness
and before there was something
there wasn't nothing
The swirling stars
dip and twist
dancing the cosmic ballet
but they are not there
because I am not there
A volcano erupts
but I have not seen it
I did not live it
Maybe you dreamed it?

This is somethimg I thought would be interesting: Write a creation myth. It doesn't have to be the creation of this world it can be the creation of a fantasy world, alien world, etc. You can have one god, many gods or no gods. Continue
Heres one for a story idea I had that would probably be allot better off as a game scrip.
In the beginning there was only void and from the void came Phoenix and Lóng. Phoenix and Lóng battled, from their battle came Air,…

I do like to play with my religionist friends - especially the ones who have decided that the dinosaurs were around during biblical times. I am also a big fan of Richard Dawkins - and his argument that evolution proves there is no god. And really - once you understand the process of evolution, it is very hard to see how the process could have been controlled by a god.
So, I wrote an article at hubpages explaining why evolution proves god does not exist. There is no such thing as a… Continue

Creation stories are universal among religions, through the ages. The ineffable mystery of life compelled us to explain our existence. In our primitive ignorance of the world, religion was the best we could do to provide the explanations we craved.
Thanks to science, we’re learning more about the universe and illuminating the dark corners of what was once our ignorance.
The word, "create", means: to bring into existence. Thus, if God created the universe, it had a… Continue

It has been eventful summer for me with three vacations so far. I'm hoping my traveling is over now. I love to go on vacation, but I am the type of person that starts yearning for my bed after four days away.
I am only going to cover the most recent vacation in this blog because it is the vacation that will interest the fine folks here on the Nexus. It started Thursday July 1 when I departed Arkansas for a family reunion in the Pennsylvania Dutch country.…

After reading the article I can tell you that my High School and College educations have done little to improve people's understanding of natural phenomena. I don't know if I agree with the conclusion of the study that there may be a hardwired component to believe in a purpose driven existence or if it is, as… Continue

So say the texts which Jews and Christians consider holy.
When you make something in your image you make it look like you, right? This would mean that the Jewish God responsible for the creation of man looks exactly like an ancient Jewish male.
This might need a little modification since there is some dispute over whether the creation god was Yahweh, El, a committee of Elohim gods or some combination of these. There is also the question of whether the responsible god was… Continue

Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus born 27 February 272 was the undisputed Roman Emperor from 306 to 324 to his death. He was the first Christian Emperor and in fact had a great deal to do with how the Christian religion was organized and its initial ceremonies.
In the year 313, he declared the Edict of Milan which proclaimed religious toleration throughout the empire.

He had great influence over the First Council of Nicaea and wanted… Continue

It’s never ceases to amuse me that the following passage translated from the original old testaments the within the Jewish Bible, the torah has been adapted from its original meaning in most Christian publications of the Old Testaments
Isaiah Chapter 45.7 (Torah)
I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I am the LORD, that doeth all these things.
It of course highlights the fact that the Jewish author made a bold statement that God… Continue
