What is wonderism?

New post summarizing and describing What is wonderism?:

"I've gotten at least a few comments from people along the lines of, "I'm still not sure what to make of wonderism." In my attempts to explain it, I find myself writing longer and longer articles, with more and more detail. Sometimes it's harder to express an idea in just a few words, than in many words! Pascal's famous quote comes to mind:… Continue

A|N - worthy experiment.

It will be interesting to watch A|N grow with time. Right now it seems like a pretty small community, and I feel a little self-conscious posting stuff, since unlike MySpace, or Facebook, anything you say or post seems to shoot straight to the top of the main-page for all to see and yak about. Not sure I like it personally, but it will probably help the community to grow. Its an odd coincidence that I got a message from Atheist Nexus today, causing me to log in after a long time. Not that I put much stock in coincidences, but I feel distinctly odd. Odd because the email came right after I got out of a meeting with my born-again devout christian graduate student who announced they were quitting the biology graduate program after a prolonged struggle, and much prayer, to try to reconcile faith with evolution!

I won't go into all the details of the back… Continue

Ethical Society and confronting the religious

I will be speaking this Sunday, April 29 to the St. Louis Ethical Society, 9001 Clayton Rd. St. Louis . Hope to see some of the Atheist Nexus members there.

I was discussing the issue of Atheist behavior toward theists with a colleague recently and thought I would put up my answer to one of his questions:

In my talks, I often try and discuss the four principles of communication with a theist (p. 182 of The God Virus). Unfortunately, I find that there is a good deal of… Continue

Getting it less wrong

Getting it less wrong

A very interesting subject. Arrogance seems to be a underlying aspect of scientific explanations to those who are faith based thinkers. They seem to immediately perceive science reasoning as an attack. They may infer you are questioning that they are less intelligent in some way to gravitate to faith instead of science for an explanation of the natural world?

I have a lot of questions and so few answers.… Continue
