Ravaging the Planet for Our Own Amusement

Another A/N blogger, Richard Goscicki, has eloquently written on the connection between religion and the destruction of our planet.  Let us count the ways.

Time is wasted in religious ritual and obsessing over ancient texts.  Religious wars and terrorism carry on a constant slaughter of humans and destruction of resources.  Religious teachings – that contraception is wrong, that man is not descended from animals but is special, that we are meant to have total dominion over nature…all…

Facts Don't Matter Anymore

i'm reposting this for three reasons:

1.  i think it is an interesting observation that did not get much notice

2.  it's been on my mind a lot lately

3.  many of the blog posts have been weak lately.  not to belittle anyone else's efforts, but many are more appropriate for discussions or simple status updates than a blog post, IMO.  anyway, i'll also post the few comments that were made.

They are working with a long view--4.5 billion years--of the Earth's history, as opposed to the meteorological view--60 years at… Continue

Human impacts on aquatic life

Our lives

For many the worlds oceans have little consequence on their daily lives. They are deemed beautiful but a resource that can be fully taken advantage of. Indeed we as the humans also have the tendancy of treating the oceans with little respect, polluting it with sewage, chemicals and rubbish.

However my motivation here, is not to complain and blame others but to simply describe some of the issues and science I come across in my daily life as an environmental… Continue

Plan C: Destroy the Sun

LiveScience posted a short article the other day on potential schemes for dealing with extreme climate change, and the list of possibilities is a wonderful primer on how wild eyed people can be about this issue. The article reported on testimony from climatologist Ken Caldeira of the Carnegie Institution in Washington, D.C., following a report Dr. Caldiera gave to the British Parliament.

Climate change is a… Continue
