We're a bit far from Christmas time, but somehow the Halloween thread reminded me of this.
Every Christmas, my family gathers at my grandmother's house to eat dinner and give gifts. Some of my cousins are a bit...umm...out there, you could say. One of them made a visit with her children, which was a little surprising, since I usually don't see her on Christmas (or any other time, for that matter). My dad has a way with kids, so of course he talked to my cousin's kids and…
Whether it's a well-known concept or not, the hypocrisy of modern Christians is startling. Well, not startling when you realize (to even their admittance) that they do not read their own Bible. But startling to us who have, and have gleaned from its pages some positive things.
Don't get me wrong, the Old Testament is worth being burned (and as a hard-core reader, who faints when the page of a book is torn, that's something for me to…
Over the past week I have engaged a number of christians on Twitter, and it seems as though evidence for beliefs, and specifically, what is it that makes beliefs valid or invalid. So I want to address directly the nature of valid and invalid beliefs, and then would like to shift my focus to one tweeter in particular and the pope and some comments he recently made.
Because christians and atheists always seem to start running into problems here, each criticizing the other of not having… Continue
In a bit of a twist, a Christian school has banned the National Anthem. “As a result of a thoughtful, thorough, prayerful period of listening, learning and discerning,” the Goshen College Board of Directors said, “it…
A friend of mine recently challenged me to find 10 positive things that religion has given the world. I struggled to find one. In fact, the only one I did think of at the time was, a fascinating literary work of fiction. However, I have thought of another; after reading an article about the apparent end of days that is promised to be coming to all us non-believers on the 21 May, (that's tomorrow from the time of me writing this, better start repenting). The…
In my last blog, ‘My Story’ I had mentioned the misconceptions of Atheists and said that this was a topic for another day. Well, today I will talk about this topic, and why it’s important to me to rid society of these stigmas, and why in fact(in my opinion) these misconceptions exist at all.
How do any group of people get misunderstood or labeled as ‘bad’? It can stem from a number of things and really isn’t…
I was thinking about (click here to read rest of post)
No, no, no. Just kidding.
I would never pull the bait-and-switch tactic here. I respect the membership of Atheist Nexus too much, despite none of you having an absolute basis for morality. If I'm going to take up space on the blogroll, I will try to write something substantial exclusively for this site.
But at the risk of being spammy, I do want to post a link to my new main blog,…
This guy has been emailing me for 3 months. I started ignoring him a long time ago. He wanted to be on my show, because he is a "deacon in his church." I found he had nothing more to say, no topic, no expertise other than this church status. I declined his offer, because he only offered to talk about his "theories why atheists disbelieve in Christ." So that was that, right?
In later emails I told him we had little more to say on the subject. I was polite and conversational, and… Continue
Why do theists think that quoting the bible will change our minds? It obviously didn't already and its not going to. It has no rock hard evidence of anything.
They use scare tactics to get us believe -- saying we're going to Hell for not believing. What do they honestly expect us to do? Say "oh, you're treating me like a gullible child so I better shape up and listen to you." No. It's like their telling us "If you don't believe in Santa, you won't get any presents." Only, there are no… Continue
The other day, someone i'm very close to had just found out i'm an atheist. So she looked at me and said, "Katie, where does a rainbow come from?" I know it has something to do with the sun and a prism of colors, but i dont know everything about it and I don't know how it works exactly, so I took a moment before I answered. Seeing that I didn't answer right away though, and seeing me ponder it, she isaid , "see? Nobody knows. It's god." And I said, "No, its just a prism of reflecting light and… Continue
Well, in school I have recently attended a few Bible Study classes just out of pure interest. During most of I I could barely stop myself from laughing, but today however, I was fuming. The teacher was talking about how the Bible was the infallible word of God and that they were God's instruments, she also commented on how "secular-humanists" A.K.A. Atheists are close minded and seek simple Earthly pleasures to fill the void left by their lack of faith in God. I just wanted to yell, especially… Continue
I guess I don't have to tell you guys, the last thing you want to be telling people who suffer from delusions is that mystical demons roam amongst them. But society has a huge problem with calling people's religion into question, this happens.
By the way, yes this is my blog and yes I'm still in the process of building it. I'll be glad to get any constructive criticism.
I've had to be a tightwad lately. I haven't been able to donate as much as I'd like to for various worthy causes. Today I recieved the following from Equal Rights Washington, a local group advocating marriage equality for everyone in my state. As a… Continue
So my school has 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams and the 7th graders had a game today and the rest had regular practice. Guess what team the 7th graders were playing.....a christian school team! So yeah I was at practice and then we got to watch the last part of the game and the Christian team SUCKED. Want to guess what the final score was? Our 7th team won by 35 points! 39 to 4. I joked with my friends that they probably thought Jesus would help them lol.
