Putting Abandoned Quebec Churches to Good Use

The Days When The Church Ruled

This is the first time I was ever in a city where you couldn't throw a brick without breaking a church window. Yet I was told that you were going to build one more. I said the scheme is good, but where are you going to find room? They said, we…

Catholic Parents: Oh No! Don't Give Our Children The Gay!

My wife and I both work and we have a two year old kid. This takes up a lot of my time so lots can happen in this world of ours without my noticing it. Like natural disasters, revolutions, whole continents disappearing into the sea and Bill 13, which is making its way through the legislature in…

A Little Spring Cleaning

It's been hard times for the Catholic church here in Quebec since the Quiet Revolution back in the 1960s.  So much so that the church has really stepped up the marketing angle in the last decade to try and woo people back into church - or at least woo the money out of them.

The image to the left is…

Looks like the Vatican has nun-o-phobia too.

While listening to the Ask An Atheist (One Nation Indivisible) podcast, I heard that the Vatican is coming down hard on American…

Lawsuit accuses Quebec Catholic Church of coercing adoptions

On the heels of my previous post about the ever dwindling influence of the Church in Quebec, here's yet another possible contributing factor.

The Montreal Gazette describes a class action suit against the Catholic…

Valid and Invalid Beliefs: The Pope and Other Carlatans

Over the past week I have engaged a number of christians on Twitter, and it seems as though evidence for beliefs, and specifically, what is it that makes beliefs valid or invalid. So I want to address directly the nature of valid and invalid beliefs, and then would like to shift my focus to one tweeter in particular and the pope and some comments he recently made.

Because christians and atheists always seem to start running into problems here, each criticizing the other of not having… Continue

The evil of Pope Benedict XVI

In a recent visit to London, the Holy Vicar of Christ continues with the past lies of the Catholic Church, continues to shirk the responsibility of his Church, and continues to spread misconceptions that are obviously false.…

The Holy Foreskin

This is a translation from an original post I made in Spanish. There's more talk about this issue in the hispanic blogs, perhaps due to the increased catholic presence. I guess some probably have not heard about this.

You won't believe this one.

There's many questions that go unanswered in the catholic catechism. How did all the animals fit in the ark? Did Adam have a bellybutton? Do you really expect us to believe this shit? There are other questions, however,… Continue

Vatican Accepts Darwinian Evolution as True

The Vatican has admitted that Charles Darwin was on the right track when he claimed that Man descended from apes.

A leading official declared yesterday that Darwin’s theory of evolution was compatible with Christian faith, and could even be traced to St Augustine and St Thomas Aquinas. “In fact, what we mean by evolution is the world as created by God,” said Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture. The Vatican also dealt the final blow to speculation… Continue

Atheism and Europe have their roots in Christianity claims Vatican

This is my first post on this site and not wholly sure whether best to post a blog or forum post or start a group! Anyway, no doubt I'll find my way around.

I've written an article on Atheism and Europe have Christian Roots claims Vatican on my own Asylum Joy blog. Would appreciate some comments on this, as well as possibly some votes on StumbleUpon. Actually, on this last point am slowly… Continue

CRACKING UP WITH THE CRACKER WHACKER

PZ Myers has done it again. He has quite a habit of doing it.

A recent entry in his Blog is not only funny in its own right but has resulted in a lengthy and highly hilarious interchange among blog followers. I would strongly recommend that you find an hour or so to devour it. I suggest that you refrain from drinking while doing so. It is dangerous to your health to drink and… Continue

Dear Papa,

I know you’re a well known defender of traditional Catholic doctrine and values, but there is a problem within the third World countries such as the Christian nation I presently live in. The Philippines consists of hordes of faithful Catholic followers that live in poverty.

The problem seems to be looked at the wrong way by you and your present administration… Continue

The 'joys' of a religious family..

Mini-rant time!

A conversation between my aunt and my grandmother went like this last Sunday morning upon the appearance of an article in the paper about non-religious summer camps;

G-ma (with shock); "Non-religious summer camps?!"

Aunt (derisively); "I bet they're teaching them that new-age crap"

It's so hard not to speak up in situations like this where people are blatantly and unapologetically bigoted. And that really is the problem. Many people in my… Continue

Kathy Griffin's Acceptance Speech to Be Cut from Emmy's Broadcast
