With Friends Like This...

Well, there seems to be a new one every week, a Christian who claims atheism is a kind of faith. So let's parse this nonsense and explain again the chasm of distinction between belief and non-belief. (You'd think it would be so obvious they aren't the same thing, but you'd be surprised.)

Irish Times Op-Ed writer Breda O'Brien claims

Atheists often appeal to science to underwrite their disbelief, but the decision not to believe in God lies ultimately in the arena of gut… Continue

My first Christian!

My blog Angie the Anti-Theist now has the FIRST shiny new comment from a Christian. It's glorious - he acts snooty, tells me I'm arrogant, that I was a bad Christian, and that gawd hasn't given up on me yet.

Oh happy happy blog world!

Fruits of the Spirit

Come on over to Angie the Anti-Theist where I muse on the good old fruits, and how an atheist doesn't need any ghosts to be joyful, peaceful, loving, kind, good, patient, gentle, and self-controlled. Faithful is another story.

My first blog

Hi, I've been a member for a couple of months now, but I had not felt enough confidence to write anything, until now.

I'm for México and I'm sorrounded by religious people, some moderate, some extremists but the majority of the people, including my whole family is catholic, just like I used to be (or still are if you consider the fact that they just don't let you go so easily, you know since you just can't erase baptism).

I realized I was really and atheist about 2 years… Continue

A little Background....

When I was about 12 years old I came to the realization that god was not real. As I stare into the picture of the virgin Mary it occurred to me, why do i have to do this(pray before her)? He might not even exist? When I came to this conclusion I felt it necessary to share it with my parents. There response was to send me to church more often...thinking that all I needed was "Jesus in my life", this, it turned out made me an atheist. When I was about 16 however I could contain it no longer, I… Continue

Beware, a wall of text.

I blog over on the Chariots of Iron site, and I just put up a long one over there, it was rather well thought out so i thought I'd mirror it here for AN users that don't visit our podcast site... and yes this has been a shameless plug for bot the blog and the podcast. The version there contains many links to some references. I don't mirror posts often, so I hope you enjoy this rant.

My first appeal to a Christian

Today I made my first appeal to a Christian as an atheist and posted a comment on this blog,

http://thewomanofvirtue.blogspot.com/2008/10/four-year-old-who-knows-she-needs.html

which was flagged up by a commenter on Pharyngula and has now been picked up Richard Dawkins website and others. Up until now I have been something of a lurker :-) I have not been active, only an observer and have never jumped in at the deep end until now. I am a committed and convinced atheist, but… Continue

Moving things around. Chariots of Iron Blog Online.

Over on the Wired.com blogs I saw an interesting article which relates precisely to the segment we did in season one, episode one.

This article does a much better job of pointing out some competing ideas, and gets into some information I did not have time to adequately cover in the segment, I strongly suggest clicking through the links in the article as well. I know that the LHC is dominating the minds of pop-science fans, but these are major breakthroughs going on which implications… Continue

I've got a blog!

Hooray, a place for me to say... anything I damn well please! I guess the first order of business is to share a bit more about myself than I did in the 'About Me' box :)

I was born in Louisiana, raised in Georgia, and now live in Alabama. I was brought up in a pervasively Christian atmosphere. My uncle was a pastor here in Huntsville, and I think my parents wanted to show the rest of the family what 'good Christians' they were, since they'd been the black sheep for eloping. Anyway, I was… Continue

Atheist Revolution

My blog, Atheist Revolution, focuses on breaking free from irrational belief and opposing Christian extremism in America. Content emphasizes promoting the atheist movement (i.e., atheism, reason, science, critical thinking, etc.) and exposing the realities of Christian extremism in the United States. In addition, I regularly address progressive politics and offer tips to atheist bloggers for increasing traffic to their blogs.
