Intestinal Fortitude

What the hell, I have nothing better to do today than speak my mind a bit.  I really haven't written anything at all anywhere in a very  long time.  So here goes...

The biggest problem with humans is that they're so godlessdamned chicken shit.  I mean really.  When human kind learned to think the first thing he did was recognize danger and he ran like hell.  And people are still running.  And hiding.  It drives me nuts.  This is the real reason I just quit and don't really give two…

Vossa Santidade, agradecemos a menção a nós, ateus! É isso mesmo. Estamos todos irmanados na luta…

When Should Atheists Keep Their Mouths Shut? (And When Not?)

“God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the miserable.  They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos: He will set them above their betters.”

H.L. Mencken

Is it possible for a God to exist?

I really hope there's a good IronChariots article that addresses this, but not finding one I'm putting this here.

I'm not asking the question. Recently I've seen a number of good youtube atheists made awkward by arguments beginning along the lines of asking "Is it possible for a God to exist?". I believe this to be an excellent (from the apologists point of view) trick question. I saw several examples of an atheist responding with a very hesitant, guarded yes, and then I could not…

You Do the Math

With the rise of Evangelical Christianity in the United States a corresponding increase in finger pointing and blame claiming that the country is in moral decline accompanied it. The usual culprits for the fingered for the alleged deterioration are liberals, non-Christians and unbelievers, but a look at the numbers show the source may be a closer to home.

Without a doubt Christianity is the dominant religion in the United States comprising 75 percent of the population. Christian… Continue

Lunch with an Atheist! DA DAAAAAA!!!

Had a chat at lunch today. With my girlfriend who is my partner (we live together). She’s an atheist too….so I havent had to deal with any problems there. We talked about what people might think or say about us (especially here) and we also talked about people’s sexual preferences and how that is more accepted here than letting others know that you do not believe in God. Someone she knows is gay and is still somewhat “in the closet” and yet travels miles to be with someone. And it…

Why I Can't Support American Atheists

As much as I like Dave Silverman, more and more he rubs me the wrong way, and it seems like most of the atheists who do the most rubbing me of the wrong way are affiliated with American Atheists. It seems like they're trying to undo all the work me and many others are trying to do by framing atheism as it's own religion. Whenever I see a Madalyn Murray O'Hair, Michael Newdow, or even Dave Silverman quote, most of the time it makes me facepalm, because most of the time they're reflecting some… Continue

American Atheist Convention and Easter Scheduling

http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/04/03/easter.atheists/index.html?hpt=T2

While Easter Sunday is nearly to be celebrated (early in the day, no doubt) by Christians across the world, on this same weekend, the American Atheists are meeting in their 36th convention. This year’s goal in particular is to note that while there are still widespread stereotypes about atheism (one of them especially mistaken, since… Continue

The Price of Tea

A few weeks ago I got a message from a friend after I suggested a website for them to visit to gather information. Later that day as I’m going through my mail I see that my friend replied to my suggestion with a brief note saying “I am a Christian and I cannot go to an atheist website.” I sat there flabbergasted wondering what happened between my suggestion and this note, thinking to myself “What does that have to do with the price of tea in…

My Father's Funeral, an Atheist's Funeral.

A few weeks ago my father passed away. Like me he was an Atheist. Like me he had been one since he was a young man. I was six when I “became” one, or rather realized, like with Santa, the Easter Bunny,

ghosts and all, it was all made up.

So in keeping with my father’s wishes we had a non-religious funeral.  I gave the eulogy. I spoke about his life.  What he had…

The fact that they don't get it is the whole point

Hi friends I need to start blogging here more often, the accumulated toxins in my brain had me going mad.

Religious people just don't get it, and even worse they don't know it, but then again if they did get it they'd be rational members of this site.

My housemate said to me this morning "You don't believe in Jesus?" I said even more then that, I don't think he ever existed. This a very strong position for me, since I once was sure he was the only begotten son…

The Hell With Atheists After the Foxholes

Many people say, “There are no atheists in foxholes.” As a practical matter this obviously isn’t the case, but the Army’s new Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Program (CSFP)…

Here I go again, stating the obvious.

An epiphany...I have been doing a great deal of reading on atheism. While I am sure that many people have come to this same conclusion before me I am still impressed that I came up with this on my own in my own little mind.

I was reading about the god of the Old Testament and as we all know he was fairly unpleasant. This seemed to be so different from what my parents taught me about god. They did warn me however that god was watching over me and that he was keeping track of my…
