The Know-it-all Atheist

Every so often, someone will tell me that atheists are impossible to debate, because they think they know it all.  Someone will tell me that I am dismissing their claims before I have even heard them.  They accuse me of shutting out the “evidence” they have to “prove” god’s existence.  They say I am doing what I accuse them of doing:  sticking fingers in the ears and screaming, “La-La-la! Can’t hear you!”

Well, they may have a point.  I…

Dear God: I'm So Glad You Love Me More Than Others

As a resident of the Pacific Northwest, and occasional visitor to what is left of Mount St. Helens after the big blast in 1980, I was very interested to watch two specials that aired Tuesday night on Oregon Public Broadcasting.

The first was a very interesting look at how life has returned to much of the blast zone, a return that defied the expectations of scientists in the speed with which it happened. Which is not to…

Re: Some thoughts upon the popular idea of deriding Agnostics as "fence-sitters".

It really is beyond just annoying when folks choose to grace the front page of a|n with their blogging wisdom, and then proceed to lock all commentary when it deviates from what they wish to hear. I have a lot of questions and so few answers.… Continue

No Smear too Ridiculous

By many accounts Rick Warren, bestselling author, Pastor of the Christian Saddleback Church and host to a recent Presidential debate, is a well meaning and sincere guy. Based on what he says though, I have to ask, “Is there any slam on non-believers that would be too ridiculous for him to make?”

Pastor Rick appears to pretty open to electing Presidential Candidates of differing religious perspectives. Taking him at his word, he could support candidates from faith traditions that vary… Continue

Why I'm An Atheist, Not An Agnostic

Stumbling around the web, I came across a page at lukeprog.com titled The Arrogance of Atheism. I almost moved on, but then I saw the subtitle: Why I’m an atheist, not an agnostic. Luke writes a page that is simple and concise, yet totally makes sense. I contacted him and asked him if I could share it with you. He said sure, so here it is in its entirety:

The Arrogance… Continue
