A little about the posts I've made and an intro to the last one

Hi, I'm Phil Jarrett, the author and copyright holder of the sequence of poems posted on my blog today.

Someone got me thinking about growing up in poverty in West Virginia so I published the toys you never won growing up in Chespeake, West Virginia on the Kanawha River in the 'Fifties.  and that one led to a poem after the Sego Mine Murders The Ghost of These Dark Hills.  After came the one about my spiritual journey from the hard work and drudgerly…

Mondo Diablo Episode 282: Let Us Play at Exorcism!

This week, our old friend Bob Larson (whose under investigation-what conservative radio personality isn't) tries to pull off some amazingly New Age therapy on some gay men. It includes the assumption that they hate their fathers, and when that doesn't pan out, they hate their mothers. I suppose if this guy had hated his father, he would have pulled out some old men out of the audience to help with his… Continue

God In Chaos; Chapter Seven; RELIGION SHINES ITS LIGHT part twenty-seven

Religion has truly surpassed the power of every invention that has followed it. As the

Bronze Age, Iron age, middle ages, the age of enlightenment and the

Modern ages have come and gone and gone, religion has been the enemy of

progress every step of the way. To the faithful, things like the Hubble

Space Telescope, nuclear weapons, and climate change are nothing

compared to the power of a faith that believes in a god. If anything man can… Continue

God in Chaos; Chapter Seven; Humans in The Mist part twenty-five.

When paleontologists, archaeologists, anthropologist and other professionals who research the history of Earth through geology, fossils, and ancient

sites of man and animals, a picture begins to develop. Like all

primates, humans are very social and territorial animals. Similar

characteristics are common to the varieties of primate species. But when

the dawn of man came, modern man arrived on the planet pretty…

Religion's Bucket List

"Without GOD there would not be any real logic, reason or science, In fact there wouldn't be a Donald Barbera (me) in this worlds age!! I'm not trying to change anybody's mind, each person sails his own ship and if he/she wants to sail it to…

Belief in Science

I wrote a book called "Belief in Science and the Science of Belief." Here's a blurb about it:

"Our selective abandonment of reason to belief compromises our fundamental decision-making capacity, both in small personal matters and in critical public policy. This book will give you the insights and techniques you need to apply scientific rigor to your everyday decision-making. It will help you to understand how to verify facts, avoid logical pitfalls and belief-driven biases,…

Questions to ask spooks

I've used a standard question to throw voodoo spooks when they start babbling excessively for many years now (so long I can't cite the original idea) -

Why aren't there any psychics barred from casinos ?

Surely, if casinos can instantly spot and eject card counters, it shouldn't be too hard to deal with psychics ?

More recently, I've come up with another one -

Why don't professional dowsers volunteer their services to clear third world… Continue

Should Religion Be Allowed Before Age Of Consent?

When our 3-year-old daughter was mauled by a neighborhood dog, we were distraught, as any parent would be. But, as Jehovah's Witnesses, we faced an even greater fear, beyond the trauma and scars introduced by the dog bites: What if she needed a blood transfusion? Our religious convictions mandated that we refuse. Her very life could be in danger, not from the attack, but from our beliefs.

My mother, an insanely devout woman if ever there was one, immediately called the congregation… Continue

This age group thing.

I corrected the age group selection on my profile to reflect reality, but it made me think twice about my mental age. It may have been more accurate originally. Still, having both my age and age group separate is redundant. I definitely did not intend to make people think I was still a teenager.
