Yesterday morning, representing the Houston Atheists, I joined roughly fifty other secular Houstonians for a freethought coffee social. The meetup was organized by the Houston Freethought Alliance, with a goal of bringing our groups together for secular fellowship.…

- IN GOD WE TRUST - This religious display is quite appropriate and didn't need an act of Congress to do.
I'm an Atheist, but I like most Theists. Really, I do. Admittedly I don't agree with them, but I'm also… Continue

This post is nothing new but it does bear repeating. In America, The United States of America, more than 1 percent of our population [3,000,000 people] is in jail. This is of great benefit to the prison corporations that make money off other people misery and leads to a system that is more interested in getting people in prison than having justice done. I will post some numbers form the BBC show "QI" hosted by Stephen Fry with a four member panel and a link to that normally quite…

I received the following in an email, with a request that include it in a blog post. I thought it was worth sharing for its well thought out ideas that would be good for our country. However, when I expressed my doubts, to the sender, about the lack of members of congress lining up to jump on the bandwagon he had this to say.
It's a pipe dream. Still, there's no harm in spreading it around. The more people that see it, the better the chances that some of them will say something… Continue

Back on June 13, 2011, I wrote the blog post More catholic Whining, in which I described the situations happening in some States like New York and Illinois, involving certain catholic charities having issues with their states making it illegal to discriminate against straight couples in common law relationships and to discriminate against gay couples when providing fostering and adoption services. Now I thought this story was… Continue

Socialism, or collectivism, is a consequence of a more fundamental philosophical mistake. This mistake is the opinion that you do not have a moral right to your own life, that you owe part of your life to others. This idea is called altruism, which is mistakenly thought to be a moral position. Well, the principle of altruism, if you wish to actually think about it, is one of self-sacrifice, that it is moral to sacrifice your life to others. This should be clearly distinguished from benevolence,… Continue

GUNS AND BIBLES - Ameican Christians like to howl about their persecution, but it's hard to feel their pain. Having control over almost all political posts, have unlimited money and influence, and can demonize and run rough-shod…

Growing fast and coming in third world wide is the section of non-adherents or unbelievers. This of course would be the most diverse group of all. I would also argue the only naturally occurring group that a person is able to reach without any outside influence. That is to say that being a unbeliever takes no more effort than just looking at how the world operates and rejecting what ever the dominate system of belief is.
As of this time, I am not aware of what could… Continue

I must add here the crimes of Muslim men that are being committed against innocent women just because the men think everyone should think the way they do. Though Muslim men make up a small part of most communities in Europe they make up a large part of the men convicted of rape and sexual assault. The men do not feel guilt since they blame the non-Muslim for not…

I don't know the ngenral opinion on the ground zero "mosque" here because I haven't been as active as I should be but I know at least 1 (thunderfoo at youtube) atheist has used the argument.
This is not
Saudi Arabia this is America! The A in USA doesn't mean Arabia, it means America!
What am I talking about? Among the pathetic arguments against the "mosque" (its a cultural center you ignoramuses) the bigoted idiots spout out is "they don't allow churches in… Continue

I am an American.
On top of that I am also a Texan.
I was born in Texas and can trace my family coming to Texas in the 1850’s.
Most of my family came from the United Kingdom. The rest came from Europe.
Some have been in the United States since the early 1700’s. Some fought in the American Revolution against England.
For what I can tell, they all were “Christians” of some sort or another.
I am an Atheist.
I’ve been an Atheist since the age of six.… Continue

While I respect the right of any person to believe as they wish, I also believe that the right to speak our minds freely and without fear of reprisal, intimidation or sanction is a hallmark of Western democracy. We should not surrender our rights in order to provide uncertain security in the face of violent opposition to contrary opinions. Ben Franklin wrote, “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”.
There is… Continue
