TWO WORLDS CONVERGE part three

In both of science and religions areas of my life, I have many more experiences that added to both my understanding of the natural world and understanding about Christianity and religion. In high school, I was fortunate to take almost every science class that was offered. I even became a science proctor, [that is a teacher's aide or assistant]. The classes I took included: General Science, Biology,(two years) Chemistry, Astronomy, Physics, and Zoology. The only two classes I didn't take that…

Chapter One; LIVING IN THE SPIRITUAL WORLD part two

Somewhere between my curious nature and my desire to interact with my environment, I looked critically at the world. So as a child, when my family went to church, I really had no idea what it was about. I liked the children sermons given at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. It was fun to go in front of the sanctuary and sit with the other kids beside the pastor, since he seemed to be the reason everyone was there.…

Cranston, Rhode Island Prayer Banner Removal sparks Religious Meltdown

Following up on a local issue here in Rhode Island that has begun to mushroom into a full fledged First Amendment battle, we return to the issue of the prayer banner that has been ignobly displayed in Cranston West High School since 1958. I first covered the story here. In the interest of full disclosure, I am proud to report that Jessica Ahlquist, who has…

As if the Texas BOE's decision couldn't get worse...

...I happened upon this little snippet from an AOL News article. Here's the excerpt that really boils my blood:

"...the original curriculum asked students to 'explain the impact of Enlightenment ideas from John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, Voltaire, Charles de

Montesquieu, Jean Jacques Rousseau and Thomas Jefferson on political

revolutions from 1750 to the… Continue

Doodlemastery Bible School Part 2: God's Image = dirt

Here's the original.

"If you're descended from monkeys, does that make you think you can act like one?"

No, the truth is much more hopeful. You see, our Lord God saw fit to craft us from dirt. Which means we should act like... dirt... human... things... with ghosts...

Yeah, I'm not sure how anyone can go through their whole lives and not notice… Continue

My article about the movement of Rational Sunday School...

just appeared in the Humanist magazine. You can read it here:

http://www.thehumanist.org/humanist/09_may_jun/Mitchell.html

It includes an interview with Dale McGowan, and step-by-step information on how to start your own Rational Sunday School. I am also available for questions, if you have any.

Just comment here.

"How was the earth created, Mommy?"

I got an interesting question from School Girl this morning. While we were in the middle of the “hurry-up-brush-your-teeth-and-get-dressed” tango, she asked, “Mommy, how was the earth created?”

Now, that rang a couple of alarm bells in my head. First, the Big Questions normally come at the end of the day, as we’re getting ready for bed. I’ll admit, in the past few months we’ve been talking about some Big Questions indeed. But nothing like this.

I do know that School Girl’s… Continue

Update-izzle

I'm heading back to school in.....5 days.

I'm looking forward to this because: I'll be getting away from the family once more.

I'm NOT looking forward to this because: I'll be 320 miles away from the love of my life for nearly 9-10 months.

Yes, I know I can come for visits, but it's not the same. I want to be here, with her, living with her, loving her, and all that sappy stuff. -sighs- She's willing to put up with me, so I guess I shouldn't… Continue
