Started Reading "Lost Christianities" by Bart Ehrman...

I didn't expect it to be so funny!!

I've had (literal) laugh out loud moments (in public too!)

Very very interesting.  And I can see now how it builds on works like "Jesus interrupted" - the revelation about the last 12 verses of Mark / Jesus being Angry / The Woman Caught in Adultery  - is just scratching the surface of the complexity in the world of beliefs prior to the New Testament actually being written.

This book is utterly fascinating.

Sign the petition below and show your support for John Kieffer, Florida Atheist.  He's been arrested and is facing more than 1 year in prison for not participating in a prayer said at the beginning of a public school board meeting.  He, instead, took pictures.  His trial will be at the end of April this year.  Show your support and sign the petition!

Mondo Diablo Episode 315: Scaring the Hippies with John Waters

I'm back from hospital for the second time, this time, hopefully, for good. But probably not. This week, Joy Behar interviews John Waters, and I rant.

Mondo Diablo Episode 308: The Reformation in 20 minutes

A wondrous May Day for all of you! As you MUST know, this is the start of Beltane to end on Halloween with Samhain (SAW-Win). Whatever that means. I have an inkling, but as they say, a little too much information is a dangerous thing. Secularly, it has to do with fertility/new spring planting and ends with the harvest. Ah, the harvest. So what better way to celebrate the beginning of planting season with… Continue

There is nothing fishy about John

In her latest blog post Diana Agorio has made several claims that are unfounded, Unfortunately, since she will erase anything I write there, I will respond to her here.

I'd like to begin by taking her suppositions a step further. In Akkadian, the word for merman is kalīlu. Now, I can't help but noticing the similarity between Kaliilu and Kal El, the Kryptonian name for Superman. A… Continue

If He Walks Like a Muslim and Talks Like a Muslim…

HEATHEN! - I'm not saying he's a Muslim, but he sure looks to be a born one to me.

There's nothing surprising about recent poll numbers indicating more people are "confused" about The Messiah's™ true religion than… Continue

Unhindered by King or Priest: The Value and Necessity of Tolerance

I don’t believe in religion, but I do believe in religious freedom and religious tolerance. That doesn’t mean I am innocent of irascibility when it comes to my attitude about religion. I have all manner of opinions on the subject, but I find myself in the same position I imagine John Adams (also irascible) found himself in when he observed the Jesuits were coming to our newly founded republic.

I do not like the reappearance of the Jesuits.... Shall we not have regular swarms of them… Continue

Kerry, Ireland

It is hard to find time to write while touring beautiful Ireland. Many photos and stories that will need to wait for a later time. While the weather has not cooperated - rain almost all the time every day - it cannot hide the beauty of Ireland and its people. We spent two wonderful days with John and Mary Buckley in the Shannon area. John is an excellent tour guide and his Scotch is first class. Wonderful conversation each evening.

Cincinnati

Congratulations to John Welte for giving the Christianists an opportunity to show their intolerance. John and his group put up a billboard on Cinci and threats started flying. Seems the Christians with all their billboards can't stand an atheist one. Take a look at the news article:

John is also a Recovering from Religion facilitator and has been on the… Continue

Love Happens - Unfortunately

Even motivational speakers can be stricken with bouts of insecurity and Burke is no different. Love Happens’ flat main characters are almost saved by complex and well portrayed secondary characters who steal the scenes whenever they are on screen.

After the death of his wife, Burke (Aaron Eckhart) shares his grief with other people who have lost their loved ones by creating a self help program called A-Okay! While traveling to Seattle for a conference, he meets the beautiful and… Continue

Unsung Atheists: John Huston

When Dino de Laurentiis announced his production of The Bible and told the press he had asked John Huston to direct, some thought the choice an odd one. After all, here was a movie-maker whose canon included bleak, misanthropic adventure films (Treasure of the Sierra Madre), gritty and godless crime molodramas (The Asphalt Jungle), and jaundiced views of Christian proselytization (The African Queen). Huston had shown no particular ecumenical zeal nor even for that… Continue
