Cognitive Dissonance OR Jesus is a Shapeshifter

I think my Art History professor hit upon something last night while discussing the Pazzi Chapel designed by Brunelleschi. He said, “Belief is knowledge, and when you ‘know’ something, you are comfortable. But if I say, ‘WRONG!’ then suddenly your belief in what you thought you knew is called into question and you are uncomfortable.” He went on to discuss why the chapel itself was “comfortable” because it mathematically had correct proportions, etc. etc., but that quote got me… Continue

Is Rupert Murdoch God?

This section is gonna focus on a quintessential aspect of British culture but one that strangely but completely shares the same principles and creates the exact same negative sociological effects as…well, i’ll get to that later, but this blog is all about that Great British Icon…The Sun…that’s the newspaper, not the really hot planet…just so you know…good.

The Sun is quite an enigma really. It has the highest circulation of any Daily English language newspaper in the world. It has… Continue

Atheist scholars believe in a historical Jesus???

I've been debating on and off with Christians in the blog of Rev. Brian Zahnd. Most recently I've been arguing with the Reverend himself in his post titled Knowing and Believing. In the comments following his post I mentioned that I didn't believe that a historical Jesus ever existed. Rev. Zahnd was shocked by my statement and claimed that he had never heard a single scholar make that… Continue

No argument

I've lived the last year in San Francisco CA and am about to move back to SC. I encountered the same argument for the bible here that i have in every country I've been in. "Because the bible says so". That's not an argument considering the bible is NOT a historic record. For the majority the gospels written about Jesus were written 100-200 years after he died. That is not a historic record. It is as much of a record as Of Mice and Men. Studying actual historc documents there is no… Continue

Reverse Pascal's Wager

I was trying to parse out the saying of Jesus from the Bible. I came across this link.

A large part of the article is a comparison between Jefferson’s and Hamilton’s vision of a future USA. That is a conversation which is interesting in it,’s self. As an aside, I mostly side w/Hamilton

The last paragraph has an interesting suggestion. [sic] …it is time we inverted Pascal's famous wager to… Continue

Is Jesus God: Part one

There are, in my view, no evidence that can solidly give the slights probability of the existence of a God. Most Christians I know, and I believe all believers, use claims of "personal connection and the so called individual personal experiences" with someone or something which they can not see, as proof of God's or Jesus' existence. Sadly, however, that's not real proof of anything and the fact Hindus, Muslim, Natives Americans and Africans, etc, also have the same so called personal… Continue

Heal The Nation of Grenada With Love of Jesus:

The Grenada Informer September 27Th, 2008 online news head lines begins with this words 'When I noticed how the Astoria Hall was packed with both NDC & NNP people and the something happened at Medgar Evers College where I observed that large numbers were unable to get in to attend the Town Hall Meeting held by the NDC Chapter in New York area, I concluded that is evidence that Grenadians have the ability to come together for the advancement of the Nation of Grenada....'

How Intelligent Is The Intelligent Designer?

If you have been following the developments of Christianity then you have to be aware of the new attempts made by the Christian world to push God down our throats. These Christians claims that evolution is not true, it's just a theory and as a result, they want a new scientific idea to be taught in the schools. This bold new idea was first proposed under the name of Creationism which was turned down as a alternative to Evolution because it was clearly seen as an attempt to put religion in the… Continue

Misquoting Jesus.

http://atheistnexus.org/forum/topic/show?id=2182797%3ATopic%3A19713

Yeah, it's an hour and a half long lecture on the origins of the Bible, but it doesn't even seem to matter since it's so very interesting. I'm hoping to go down to my favorite (read that as 'only decent') book store in this podunk town and pick it up.

Hopefully because it has the word 'Jesus' in the title, the bookstore will carry it. This town is full of fundies. There are 4 or 5 churches within walking… Continue
