In a light conversation with theist coworkers this morning, one of them dropped this gem after I said that I didn't believe in the existence of God or Satan because I didn't believe in any supernatural deity or deities:
"God isn't a deity. He's a god!" o.O

I’m an Atheist who sees god. Do laugh, but don’t click away, yet. Seeing or perceiving god is really easy, even for a non-believer. Even in my godfree world, God is a collage of artistic-aesthetic re-presentations, a sensory response to the magnificent beauty of a stunningly decorated church, a life-like statue, a painting, a ritual song or dance, a poem, etc. To me, God exists as an awe inspiring anthropological artifact which can never be fully dead as long as I retain the ability…Continue

As a former Virginian, I’m all too aware of the asshatery that is Pat Robertson. I once lived a short distance from his colonial palace cum religious law school and occasionally saw some of his on-air “journalists” at the local Farm Fresh. I…Continue

Observation and thoughts derived from the book The God Delusion: Chapter 10, Dawkins wrote the statement that 96 percent of the population of the United States thinks that they will survive their own death. If one was to say that should I jump off this 12 story building unaided, after I hit the bottom of the pavement, I will survive that fall. Any reasonable person would have no other recourse but to find the nearest phone and call 911 for emergency services. Because my statement would…Continue

This is just a rant. But it was brought into the front of my mind by something I saw recently. It was "Letters to Santa" at the post office, and they were reading letters of some of those in need. It was heart wrenching, and one story in particular stuck in my mind. It was a man, former military, unemployed, and struggling to feed his kids. He talked about how he was scrapping for any small job he could take to make a little money, and then he thanked God for keeping his children…Continue
To this statement, [Assurance of Salvation] I can already hear the devout and the faithful saying that I must not have been truly saved or filled with the spirit. First, one cannot say that according their own belief system. They cannot know my sincerity and willingness to know more of God. Also, I was one of the most devout and on fire believers that one would come across. But it will be said, never the less.
One of the main reasons that I went through the process of covering…
Somewhere between my curious nature and my desire to interact with my environment, I looked critically at the world. So as a child, when my family went to church, I really had no idea what it was about. I liked the children sermons given at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. It was fun to go in front of the sanctuary and sit with the other kids beside the pastor, since he seemed to be the reason everyone was there.…Continue
