Stolen from an actual conversation on Facebook between "J" an Intelligent Design proponent who thinkings evolutionary theory is not to be believed and some fellow believers in woo....
J: Why is it that young-earth creationist papers (published in creationist journals and peer-reviewed by other creationists) generally quite explicitly start off by assuming what they're trying to prove?
K: Confirmation bias.
J: Many of the… Continue

I often tell people that faith is not even a rung on the ladder of truth.
However, there is room for faith as long as it is backed up by facts.
I do a lot of performances with a christian friend of mine named Kevin. He is one great drummer and I have faith that when we perform he is going to be outstanding.
Faith, though, will not guarantee that he will, just as it will not guarantee that the Earth… Continue

Religion has truly surpassed the power of every invention that has followed it. As the
Bronze Age, Iron age, middle ages, the age of enlightenment and the
Modern ages have come and gone and gone, religion has been the enemy of
progress every step of the way. To the faithful, things like the Hubble
Space Telescope, nuclear weapons, and climate change are nothing
compared to the power of a faith that believes in a god. If anything man can… Continue

Akosombo Dam, The only Hydroelectric Dam in Ghana prayed for by group of pastors so rains come down or be restored to supply the country's energy. They believe its the devil stopping the rains. so wont look for any solutions or renewable sources of energy, they get an excuse like always its the devil and satan. Ignorance once again. Continue
Why do we as a people sit down, watch for a Dam like this to run out of water without looking at…

So here we are talking and suddenly you feel uncomfortable with my arguments and you retreat behind your favorite barricade. Faith. You have faith. I don't.
It’s a matter of faith, you keep saying. Nothing else. You say that I don't believe because I don't have faith. I always end up asking, “What is faith?” And you invariably tell me, “Well, it’s when you believe!” “Ah,” I say, “so why do you believe?” “Well, because we have faith - that’s why we believe and you… Continue

I was originally going to publish this at Associated Content but they don't give up front payments for opinion articles so I published it there under a non-exclusive license and will publish it else where including my blog
Beliefs in gods is as old as civilization as is religion. But is the belief in god(s) and religion necessary? Does it benefit society or does it harm society? It is my belief that a belief in god(s)… Continue

Let’s All Have Faith
If something cannot be proven, there is likely to be a reason for it. If something cannot be seen, it can still be proven. Gravity cannot be seen by any of our current technology. But its effects can be seen and measured. Just try dropping an iron weight on your toe. Or do you think that was a spiritual effect by god to punish you for being stupid enough to drop it on your toe?
Gravity can be measured, its actions observed and even predicted. I… Continue

If you aren't familiar with Pascal's Wager, it essentially argues that you should believe/honor/flatter God if only to hedge your bets. If you're wrong and there's no afterlife, nothing lost. But if you don't believe/honor/flatter and God's punitive afterlife turns out to have been real, boy won't you be sorry! It's like the Lotto: You can't win if you don't play.
On the face of it that actually makes a lot of sense. I for one would rather not spend eternity burning in hell, so… Continue

Faith – A firm belief in something for which there is no proof.
It all comes down to faith. It’s a simple word that pretends to hide someone’s belief in some ancient, mythical fairy tales. You might hear someone say, “That’s my faith. You can’t question my faith”. They expect some undeserved reverence by invoking the word, instead of pity for being fooled like a child is by Santa. Astonishingly, they actually pity you for not “sharing in their faith”.
Faith legitimizes the… Continue

Few people, outside the realm of religious wingnutopia, would be surprised to learn that GW Bush’s “abstinence only” education policies didn’t actually work in curtailing teen pregnancies and STD’s among teens.
The Centres for Disease Control (CDC) says that after years of falling rates, teen pregnancies and STDs started rising after Bush was re-elected in 2005.
According to the CDC, birth rates among teenagers aged 15 or older had been in decline since 1991 but rose sharply in more… Continue

Really though. If God truly did exist, and truly wanted all of us to be aware of his presence it would be pretty easy. I mean he is omnipotent right? Yet, the biggest crime one can commit in reference to the Bible is denying the existence of the Holy Spirit. Its the one surefire ticket straight to Hell. All God would have to do is show up again like in the good old days, perform a few miracles and I would be satisfied. But unless that happens I'll… Continue

Think about it, Christians or most Christians I should say, staunchly support the protection of a fetus, arguing that it is a child just not yet born. Like wise, their stands against arbitration are planted firmly in the individual right to life. On the other hand, their protection of children after birth seems to disappear. For example, the case of innocent 11-year-old Kara Neumann of Weston, who after the parents, both followers of the Unleavened Bread Ministries, refuse to give their… Continue

The first thing that needs to be dealt with is an explanation of my title; After many years of observing multifarious religions the one and only thing that I have learned from them , and possibly the only thing that they all have in common, is the notion of faith. Faith is the idea that belief need not be based in any way on -- and in fact is hampered by -- a reliance on evidence, after all if one requires evidence then it’s not really faith, is it. Furthermore having faith in something can… Continue

More reasons to get rid of religion.
Are our Inventors devils? This is what a Televangelist pastor named Dr. Fredrick K.C. Price insinuate on his TV broadcast. On Sunday morning, October 5Th, Pastor Price speaking on "Bible Teaching" decided to school his congregation. The pastor charged the congregation saying that they are refusing to buy his sermons on tapes and Cd's, instead spending their money on non-religious music tapes, DVDs, Cd's etc.
The angered Pastor Price in… Continue

Creationism is a religious belief and should be kept out of our schools, I say. Stupid Scientist:
According to a top British scientist, Professor Michael Reiss, director of Education for the Royal Society said that
'Children should be taught about Creationism in school biology lessons'
Why does the Professor think teaching a Biblical belief in school to your children is a good idea, because, he said

Religion is arguable the institution among us that that is responsible for the most bloodshed on our planet. With the creation of religion, man, in my view, have become more enemies to towards each other than ever. Religion have make us more ignorant and stupid. Religion turn us into pointless killers. Killing in the name of some God we can not see, will never see and who don't exist.
Yet we have people who kept trying to give us more of this bullshit thing call Religion.

Dale and Leilani Neumann of Wausau Wisconsin have been charged with 2nd degree reckless homicide for letting their 11 year old daughter die of diabetes while they prayed for her recovery rather than seeking medical care.
Their family’s attorney is fighting the case saying that the courts, if the charges are allowed to continue, will “become entangled in constitutionally protected religious matters.” because the charges “…unconstitutionally infringe on their right to freely… Continue

Figured I would post this writing from college, since it kind of applies.
We live in an artificial reality. The world around us is the result of thousands of years of culture and beliefs being abstracted over generations. There is little we "believe" and "feel" that makes any rational sense, but our actions usually can be traced directly to our basic instincts of survival. We hunger for more, both in ways that are necessities to our success as… Continue
